INVESTIGATION OF GENETIC VARIATION ON DIFFERENT POPULATIONS OF SILYBUM MARIANUM BY USING CYTOGENETIC PARAMETERS

Abstract

 his investigation was carried out on different populations of SILYBUM MARIANUM. The base number of CHROMOSOMEs in all studied populations was equal to x=17. All investigated populations were diploid. Based on two ways Stebbins table, eight populations located in the 2B class and one population located in the 3B class that indicated population 9 had more asymmetric than others. Analysis of variance showed significant differences for the total CHROMOSOME length, the largest CHROMOSOME length, sum of small arms, sum of long arms, interchromosomal index, asymmetric index, coefficient of variation centromic index. (p<0.01) and arm ratio (p<0.05). Factor analysis introduced two factors that justify nearly 88 percent of total variance among data. In the first factor, difference of relative length, interchromosomal asymmetry index had highly load and named as asymmetric factor. In the second factors, total CHROMOSOME length and sum of long arms had high load and named as CHROMOSOME length factor. CLUSTER ANALYSIS grouped populations into 4 groups. The least Euclidean distance observed between Mashhad and Semirom population and the highest Euclidean distance was between Meshkinshahr and Mobarakh. Analysis of variance showed significant differences for all traits among groups. Mashhad, Semirom and Molasani populations in the first group had minimum of the traits among investigated population. Kashan and Braan shomali population in the third group were better than other investigated populations for total CHROMOSOME length, sum of small arms, sum of long arms and the largest length of CHROMOSOME. Meshkin shahr population located in the forth group had maximum amount of difference relative length, inter chromosomal asymmetry index, asymmetric index, variation coeffeicent of centromic index and arm ratio among populations in the group.
