Title

THE INVESTIGATION OF THE YIELD AND THE SEED OIL PERCENT IN DIFFERENT CULTIVARS AND LINES OF SPRING SAFFLOWER (CARTHAMUS TINCTORIOUS L.)

Pages

  39-52

Abstract

To Study the oil yield and seed oil percent in the variety and lines of spring safflower, a trial was conducted at the Karaj Research Institute for Seed and Plant improvement. In this experiment 7 safflower varieties and lines of safflower were compared in a randomized complete Block Design with four replications. Some important traits such as: grain yield per plot, grain yield per plant, heads per plant, seeds per head, plant height, 1000 seed weight, branche numbers, seed oil amount were recorded during the growth period. Conclusions shown that the highest seed oil amount per plot was 268.75 kg/ha achieved from I.L.111 advanced line. Correlation studies shown that there was positive significant correlation between grain yield per plant with grain yield per plot and heads per plant respectively. Grain yield per plot was positively correlated with biomass and harvest index and grain yield per plant with oil yield per plant and between grain yield per plot with oil yield per plot. As the result, the new and superior line, the suitable and new spring variety of safflower (I.L.111), can be introduced for Karaj and similar regions.
