Abstract

Considering the fact that 500,000 tons of phosphate fertilizers are annually imported in the Islamic Republic of Iran, finding a method to use less fertilizer seems to be necessary. One method is the use of (PSM) for reducing the rate of phosphate fertilizers application and increasing absorption of phosphate. The biological phosphate fertilizer is a combination of phosphate solubilizing microorganisms (PSM), such as aspergillums, and triple supper phosphate (TSP) that finally will be replaced for phosphate fertilizers. In oreler to finel out the effects of PSM on cotton crop, an experiment was conducted for two years, at Cotton Research Institute in Varamin, with four treatments anal three replications. The treatments were control without use of phosphate fertilizer, use of ammonium phosphate, triple supper phosphate, and PSM. Results showed that there was a significant yield difference between treatments anel control at 1% level. However, yield differences between the fertilizer treatments were not significant, even through the PSM showed a somewhat higher yield. Further testing of PSM under other conditions are necessary, before recommending its widespread application.
