Title

A SURVEY ON BACTERIAL ABORTION OF SHEEP AND GOATS IN MARKAZI PROVINCE

Pages

  1-6

Abstract

Several infectious and noninfectious agents can induce abortions as a major cause of economic losses in SHEEP and GOAT flocks. The bacteria are most important causes of infectious abortions in farm animals. Since the aim of this study was to determine prevalence rate of bacterial agents in Markazi province-Iran, a total number of 70 aborted fetuses were studied. The parallel samples of liver and bone marrow were cultured on selective medium from each aborted fetus. Moreover, 43 flocks were tested for Brucellosis serologically. The culture results were positive for 22 samples: Listeria sp. (2 cases), Campylobacter sp. (1 case), Bacillus sp. (5 cases), Staphylococcus sp. (4 cases), Streptococcus sp. (1 case), Enterococcus sp. (1 case), Aeromonas sp. (1 case), E. coli (3 cases) and OLIGELLA SP. (4 cases). There is the first repot for isolation of OLIGELLA SP. from SHEEP and GOAT aborted fetuses in Iran. Total of 11 flocks (25.8%) showed positives in serological tests for Brucellosis. The high prevalence rate of bacterial infections were suggests zoosanitary measures and full vaccination coverage for prevention of abortions in affected flocks.
