Abstract

Myths are one of the most important subjects in every nation that come from imagination and beliefs that are formed in the past. These imaginations are formed by SYMBOLS and each one represents a part of ideas and secrets that describes world, so we can say that the myth and art both are processes of imagination and dreams. Dreams are in the form of artistic designs and we known them as works of art now. There is a direct relation between them and understanding, culture and civilization in the Sassanid era; therefore, by studying on these designs and mythological motifs, we can achieve different aspects of civilization.For this purpose, we try to survey the art of the SASANIAN period in the form of MYTHS and SYMBOLS in this research. Because the SEALs are the oldest surviving works of the ancient times and have a significant role on finding and identify much different aspect of past periods, we attempt to investigate on the mythological SYMBOLS carved on SEALs like TYSHTAR and VERESRAGHNA to realize hidden secret codes. There are some researches on the SEALs' designs on this period but not a precise one about symbolic and mythological aspects of those. Certainly, research on these MYTHS can show their beliefs and ideas about nature, life and death. Due to abundance of SEALs and considering more accurate and consistent matching between them, it is necessary to study on artistic aspects of SYMBOLS MYTHS on that era.
