Title

STUDY OF TREND OF SOIL SALINE AND SODIFICATION IN HALOXYLON PLANTED AREAS IN TYBAD, KHORASAN RAZAVI (SHORT RESEARCH PAPER)

Abstract

For many years, HALOXYLON species are used in order to stabilizing mobile SAND DUNEin Iran. This species is resistant to the soil with air and low humidity, hightemperature and high salinity. One of the negative consequences of this species in areas under cultivation is salt-sodium. Due to the presence of revived sands byHALOXYLON Persicum during the time sequence in the desert area of TAYBAD, changes of the salt-sodium level at soil surface were studied. For this purpose, 5 different sites according to theHALOXYLON plantation age (aged 11, 19, 28, 41 years) and a control site (no plantingHALOXYLON) were selected. Results show that the maximum salinity was inthe site aged 41 (0.694 dS/m) and the lowest salinity was in control site (0.34 ds/m). During the time of planting HALOXYLON, sodium absorption ratio has increased from 3.94 meq/l in the control site to 12.5 meq/l in the site aged 41. Similarity, exchangeable sodium percentage has increased from 3.92 (control site) to 17.3 (site aged 41). According to the results, planting ofHALOXYLON persicum, lead to the sodium soil.
