Abstract

This experiment aimed to evaluate the ANTIOXIDANT and hypolipidemic effects ofGracilariopsis persica seaweed using 112 Japanese QUAIL with four treatments and fourreplications in a completely randomized design for 12 weeks. The seaweed Gracilariopsispersica was added to diets in levels of 0, 1, 3, 5 percent. MDA concentration was measured inthe yolk as oxidation index after zero, 50, 100 concentration and 150 min iron-inducedoxidation. Serum CHOLESTEROL, triglycerides, VLDL, HDL and LDL were determined at the endof the experiment (12 weeks). Malondialdehyde concentrations in egg yolk of birds fed dietscontaining GRACILARIOPSIS PERSICA were lower than the control group (P< 0.05). Also, the birdsfed on GRACILARIOPSIS PERSICA diets had lower LDL and CHOLESTEROL in their serum comparedwith control group (P< 0.05). The results showed that GRACILARIOPSIS PERSICA have ANTIOXIDANTand CHOLESTEROL-lowering effects and can be considered as a new feed additive.
