Abstract

Objective: To determine the correlation among PARASITEMIA rate and some haematological parameters in infected DOGs with T.evansi.Design: Experimental study.Animals: Five Iranian crossbred DOGs, 8 months old and 15 kg mean body weight.Procedure: Blood and serum samples were collected four times before infection (as control). DOGs were infected with IV injection of 2x105 T.evansi. Then blood and serum samples were collected daily for ten days after infection and PARASITEMIA rate, haematologic and biochemical parameters (including PCV, Hb, RBC, MCV, MCH, MCHC, MCF, as well as LDH and SOD activities) were measured.Statistical analysis: ANOVA, Duncan and Regression. Results: The results revealed negative correlation of PARASITEMIA rate with RBC (r=-0.8), Hb Concentrations (r=-0.8), PCV (r=-0.8) and SOD activity(r=-0.87) and positive correlation between PARASITEMIA rate and MCF values (r=0.87). The results also showed positive correlation between values of PCV and SOD (r=0.96), Hb and SOD (r=0.96) and RBC and SOD (r=0.96). Negative correlations were observed between values of PCV and MCF (r=-0.95), Hb and MCF (r=-0.96), and RBC and MCF (r=-0.96).Clinical implications: The obtained results indictate that a reduction in SOD activity make RBCs to be extra vascularly lyzed by oxidamt.
