Abstract

This investigation was conducted to identify, phytophthora spp. caused root rot of ABIES PROCERA. Ninety diseased seedlings at age 5 to 8 year old and 23 soil samples were collected in 1995 to 1998 from an A. procera plantation and used to isolate phytophthora spp. In this study 994 phytophthora colonies were isolated from host or soil and six phytophthora sepecies were, identified. P. cryptogea & P. cinnamomi were isolated more frequently either from host tissues and soils. P. megasperma and P. cambivora were isolated less frequently and only from host tissues whereas P. pseudotsugae was only isolated from soils and at least frequently. P. undulata that was isolated for the first time from this host plant was isolated at least frequently from host tissues while isolated more frequently from soil samples.
