Abstract

The quality of urban life is associated with improvements made to the living environment, which can enhance the quality of social, economic, political, physical, and geographical aspects of life, and those improvements in turn positively affect individual and social life in cities. Measuring the Quality of life, therefore, entails all these aspects. Of substantial importance among these aspects is the quality of Housing, as it responds to basic needs. An assessment of Housing, therefore, can greatly help the measurement of urban life quality. The present research uses questionnaires set by the researchers to pose open-ended questions regarding the Quality of life and urban Housing in particular, in order to identify and describe citizens’ concerns about Housing quality in Isfahan. The sample study included 1806 citizens aged 15 to 65, whose data was collected through cluster sampling technique. After analysing data through descriptive statistics and content analysis (the answers given to the open-ended questions), it was made clear that of the 17 aspects of the Quality of life suggested to citizens, the quality of Housing, came second most important after “ job and income” . In addition, citizens believed that high-quality Housing the outcome of four topics, namely, Housing management (policies, laws and budget, and credits), Housing economics (costs and Housing market), residential building corporeal qualities (whether it is new-build and spacious with proper services), and neighbourhood qualities (whether it is modern and spacious, quiet and safe, good-looking and clean with satisfactory neighbourhood and access to public services).
