Abstract

In principal, evolution of human societies is assessed by production mode, livelihood style and work development. Contemporary societies due to their increasing development of the social, economic and productive activities need expert, educated and capable individuals who can play their key roles in the dynamism of society. On the other hand, vocational and applied higher education pursues the coordination between skill and job knowledge, so, on a assessment of the effective factors in JOB ABILITY of vocational and technical higher education graduates is essential in promotion of vocational and technical higher education programs. The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of educational factors on graduates' job capabilities. The research method employed was a correlative - descriptive one. The study population consisted of vocational and technical higher education graduates (N=215) from the vocational and technical higher education institutes in the North Western Provinces of Iran. A random sample of graduates (n=100) was picked up. The questionnaire developed to collect data contained the four sections of: educational characteristics (educational management, equipment of institutes, teacher and trainer characteristics, teaching methods and educational contents), social/economic characteristics, personal characteristics, and occupational status &job capabilities extent of graduates. Content and face validities were established by a panel of experts of faculty members at Tarbiat Modarres University, as well by a panel of graduates from vocational and technical higher education institutes. A pilot test was conducted with 15 graduates. Questionnaire reliability was estimated by calculating Cronbach' s alpha. Reliability for the overall instrument was estimated at 0.87, which verified the reliability of the questionnaire. Results showed 41% of graduates were unemployed, 11.4% were employed fulltime and 32.4% employed as part times. About thirteen percent were continuing their education. More than tow thirds (77.5%) of employed graduates were involved in agricultural sector while 22.5% employed in non-agricultural sector. Employed graduates were of the opinion that vocational and technical higher education has well prepared them for careers in agricultural sector. Unemployed graduates stated that limitations of created job opportunities in agricultural sector were the main hurdle to their entering the agricultural sector. According to the study findings, there was a significant positive relationship between fundamental facilities and equipments, teaching ability of educators and trainers, teaching methods and educational content and graduates JOB ABILITY.
