Title

LIGHT AND TRANSMISSION ELECTRON MICROSCOPICAL STUDY OF MEDULLA CELL STRUCTURE OF THE SHEEP ADRENAL GLANG IN DIFFERENT AGES AND SEASONS

Pages

  77-88

Abstract

In an attempt to study the cellular structure of the adrenal MEDULLA of Ghezel SHEEP in East Azerhaijan province, tissue sections from the largest area of the adrenals of 240 SHEEP were prepared in 5-6 mm thickness by routine procedures known for the light and transmission electron microscopic evaluations. At first, the measurement of the MEDULLA was carried out by ocular-latticed lens (Nikon) in low power magnification (x 10). For this purpose, only the sections which consisted of all parts of the gland were used. The average proportion of the MEDULLA to the whole gland in this region was % 17/08±0/02. In the light microscopic study of tissue, the adrenal MEDULLA of the SHEEP like cattle consisted of two cell types in the outer and inner layers. In the electron microscopy, four cell types were distinguished in the adrenal MEDULLA i.e. two dark and light cell types in the outer layer and another two cell types in the inner layer were found. The light cells of the outer layer had round and clear nucleus, which were less electron-dense than the irregular nucleus of the dark cells. Both cell types had two kinds of cytoplasmic secretion granules. However, one type was more electron-dense than the other type. The numbers of electron-dense secretion granules were more in the dark cells as compared to the light ones. Two cell types in the inner layer of the adrenal MEDULLA were completely different from the cells of the outer layer. Both of them contained small and large cytoplasmic secretion granules with different electron-density. Small secretion granules were more ahundant in one type and larger, irregular ones were numerous in the other type.
