Abstract

A cross sectional study was performed to determine the infection rate of dairy CATTLE to BHV -1 in Karaj. MILK samples from 270 cows over 2 years old were taken from 9 dairies in Karaj while the history of the disease and management procedures were being recorded. BHV -1 antibodies in individual MILK of cows was investigated by indirect ELISA kit. Data analysis was performed by SPSS (Ver.11) with Chi- square and Mann-Whitney U tests. The results showed 100 (37%) of MILK samples were positive. Two of nine tested herds were negative. There were the highest rates of positive samples in autumn (45) compared with spring and winter periods. The MILK production average in infected cows was significantly higher than negative ones (P=0.0005). There was a significant relation between positive MILK result and the lower fertility rate between two groups (P=0.04). In two negative herds sanitation measures like using flame and disinfectant were considerable.
