COMPARATIVE EVALUATION OF RABBIT EXCRETORY UROGRAPHY WITH IODIXANOL AND IOHEXOL

Abstract

 The purpose of this study was to evaluate differences in image quality between two nonionic contrast medium IOHEXOL and IODIXANOL in RABBIT excretory UROGRAPHY to obtain radioopacity. Also, nephrographic, pyelographic and ureter phases were visualized and detected according to the clinical effects of contrast media. Ten laboratory white RABBIT (6 male and 4 female) weighing 1200-1400 gr were selected. Five RABBITs were studied after injection of IODIXANOL 320 mgI/ml and the other five with IOHEXOL 300mgIlml. The dose for every RABBIT was 400 mgI/kg of body weight of different gences. Ventrodorsal and lateral radiographs of the abdomen were obtained immediately 0, 1, 5, 10, 20, 40 and 60 minutes after injection. After completion of the study, the radiographs obtained were evaluated and written in different phases. The urogram was scored and analyzed for statistical significance. Diagnostically adequate urographic examination was obtained with both agents. Nephrographic and pyelographic phases were visualized with both contrast media. Statistical analysis was significant for IODIXANOL compared with IOHEXOL (P<0.05). Nephrographic, pyelographic and ureter were shown in times 5, 10 and 20. The best times for evaluation were 0, 5, 10 and 20 minutes. The present study showed that using IODIXANOL has better opacity compared with IOHEXOL in RABBITs. Also, side effects were observed in them.
