Biosystematic study was performed on several Solanum species native to Iran. Cytological analysis revealed presence of 2n = 24, 48 and 72 chromosome number in the species/populations studied. Karyotypic studies revealed the role played by polyploidy and structural changes of chromosomes during species diversification. The somatic chromosome number of S. persicum is reported for the first time. Numerical analysis of morphological characters and SDS-P AG E protein bands supported the classical taxonomic treatment of the genus, providing evidence for the species inter-relationships.

In this contribution to the mycoflora of Karaj, notes are given on 28 species of micromycetes (Peronosporales, Erysiphales, Dothideales, Leotiales, Ustilaginales and mitosporic fungi) mainly collected by the authors in various parts of Karaj area. Six species are new records for Iran viz. Ramularia geranii var. geranii on Geranium pyrenaicum, Septoria gallica on Colchicum robustum, Sphaerotheca macularis on Humulus lupulus, Urocystisfischeri on Carex sp., Tilletia bornmuelleri on Taeniatherum asperum and Venturia adusta on Epilobium hirsutum. Additionaly, notes are given for the species which are insufficiently studied up to now viz., Sphaerotheca aphanis, S. ferruginea, S. plantaginis, Neoovularia ovata, Septoria cruciatae, S. plantaginis and Stagonospora fuckelli.    

In the course of this study, the material of Phaneroptera Serville, 1831 (sensu stricto) in Hayk Mirzayans Insect Museum of Plant Pests and Diseases Research Institute wete examined and reviewed. These include: Ph. albida Walker, 1896; Ph. cretacea Uvarov, 1929; Ph. falcata (Poda, 1761); Ph. gracilis Burm., 1838; Ph. sparsa Stal, 1857. It seems that there have been some misidentifications regarding Ph. Sparsa Stal. The species is distributed mainly in Africa and further extends to some parts of the Middle East. Ceychan reported it as Ph. nana sparsa Stal from Afghanistan in 1969. In few specimens from Kopet - Dagh (Turkmenstan), fore tibia length to pronotum length ratio (TIP index) directed Bei-Bienko to call them Ph. bivittata in 1958. Although the availability of this name is somehow questionable but some authors separate it from Ph. nana sparsa by indicating the T/P index, ie: for Ph. bivittata it is between 1.9 and 2.0 and for the other species it is lower than 1.9. Recently, it has been raised as Ph. sparsa Stal. The above mentioned rate was measured 1.85 for the northern Khorasan and Golestan specimens (near to Turkmenistan) and 1.75±0.63 (M±SE) for 43 specimens from all country. Besides, there are a number of reports of Ph. quadripunctata Brunner from Iran which reidentifed as Ph. sparsa. The illustrated identification key and distribution map of the species in Iran is presented.

Appropriate Industrial Location plays an important role in the success and performance of an industry. In this paper we have studied the location of industries in rural areas of Mazandaran province. We find that only four out of nine cases are in our priority lists of the study. This indicates that the present location chosen might probably be one of the main problems of these industries. Therefore, non-economic factors may have been influential in determining the Location of industry in the rural areas of the province.

C - band Patterns and karyology are discussed for two Iranian species of Fritillaria subgenus petilium. F. imperialis and F. raddeana. All populations showed a similar somatic chromosome number (2n=24). The karyotype formula for F. imperialis was 2n=2x= 24= 4m+8t+ 12st and for F. raddeana was 2n=2x= 24= 4m + 2sm + 8t + 10st. The bands were few and located at intercalary, telomeric, centromeric and rarely secondary constriction regions.F. raddeana differs from F.imperialis in the possession of SAT - submetacentric chromosome, white thick subtelomeric heteromorphic band in their short arms, adjacent to the satellite. Further aspects of banding patterns, band heteromorphy, chromocenters and the role of C- banding in cytotaxonomy are discussed.
