Packed bed bioreactor with particulated activted carbon were used in study of sulftte consumption by
Thiobacillus ferrooxidans.
Bacteria were immobilized on activated carbon particles as the carrier in a glass bioreactor and growth of
bacteria were studied with thiosulfate. Aeration were done Via exit portion with control of culture medium flow.
35 liters of culture medium with 1 ml/min current flow in one week were injected to system. Sulphate were
increased in 20% by metabolism of bacteria. Scanning Electron Microscopy were used for demonstration of
immobilization and reproduction of bacteria on the carrier with sulftte as sole source of energy and electron.
