Abstract: 

Purpose: Scientific exchanges and easy access to the required information are necessary for the scientific growth and dynamism of society. Scientific social networks as platforms for scientific exchanges can play important role in the development of scientific communities. Today, with the expansion of the applications of information and communication technology in everyday life, we are witnessing the formation of a new generation of Internet tools that have provided countless possibilities for mutual relations, negotiation, dialogue and, in general, two-way communication. Scientific social networks are an environment for the introduction and promotion of scientific activities and in fact, the more relevant information they can provide, the more they will be welcomed by experts, and the gathering of more experts in these networks means more scientific dynamism. The purpose of this study is to describe the experience of information science professionals about the relevance of information in ResearchGate scientific network. Method: This research is a qualitative research with a conceptual phenomenological design. The reason for choosing this method is because experiences of people requires a deep description of a certain phenomenon to a specific group of people and also one of the suitable fields for conducting research. Interpretive paradigm of phenomenological method is research in the field of information retrieval, which is important in information science and epistemology. Participants in present study are 22 experts and faculty members (9 males and 13 females) in the field of information science and epistemology in Iranian universities who are members of the research social science network. Participants were selected using purposeful sampling. Data was collected from semi-structured interview method, then coded and analyzed using Dickelman method. Finding: The results of the interviews analysis led to the extraction 551 initial code and four categories: Relevance of the document, relevance of the successor to the document, the relevance of the requests and questions, and the lack of relevance feedback. Conclusion: The results emphasize showed that Researchgate network plays an important role in meeting information needs of users. The network is not an information system, a forum for meeting scientific needs and promoting science.

Abstract: 

هدف از پژوهش حاضر بررسی وضعیت آلودگی اطلاعات در شبکه های اجتماعی - علمی و ارائه راهکارهای مناسب به اعضای شبکه برای کاهش نقش منفی خودآرشیوی آن ها در آلودگی اطلاعات شبکه های اجتماعی - علمی آکادمیا و مندلی است. در این پژوهش از روش مروری - تحلیلی با رویکرد توصیفی استفاده شده است که در آن پژوهشگران به معرفی شبکه های اجتماعی - علمی آکادمیا و مندلی و بررسی وضعیت اطلاعات موجود در آن ها می پردازند. با توجه به ویژگی های این شبکه ها، راهکارهایی برای کاهش آلودگی اطلاعات در شبکه های مذکور ارائه می شود. یافته ها حاکی از آن است که خودآرشیوی اعضا سبب افزایش آلودگی اطلاعات ـ همچون به روز نبودن، چندزبانه بودن، ناخوانا بودن، دروغین و نامعتبر بودن، تکراری بودن، و نقص اطلاعات در شبکه های اجتماعی ـ شده است. امروزه، شاهد افزایش روزافزون کاربران شبکه های اجتماعی و به تبع آن افزایش بی رویه و غیرقابل جلوگیری اطلاعات ناخواسته هستیم. بنابراین، اطلاعات اشتباه، حجم زیاد آن ها، و آلودگی اطلاعات از جمله مشکلاتی است که شبکه های اجتماعی، به منزله بخشی از فضای مجازی، با آن دست و پنجه نرم می کنند. این پژوهش نشان می دهد که با ارائه راهکارهایی به اعضا ـ از جمله وضع و اعمال استانداردها و قواعد به منظور کنترل دقیق داده های ورودی به شبکه ها، استفاده از تکنیک های نام گذاری استاندارد برای ورود اطلاعات، و برقراری پیوند بین گروه ها برای دسترسی مشترک به مقالات ـ می توان از آلودگی اطلاعات در این فضای مجازی کاست.

Abstract: 

Introduction & Objective: Social networks in general and scientific social networks in particular have always attracted the attention of human groups and communities. The purpose of this article is to investigate the willingness to attend and use these communication tools from various aspects. Materials & Methods: The present study is a fundamental study that examines the requirements for the use of scientific social networks in universities and research environments with a library approach. The views and opinions of different people have been studied and the effects of using social networks on the scientometric indicators of databases have been introduced. Results: The results of Altmetrics studies in the field of medical sciences show that the activities of researchers in social networks have a positive and significant effect on scientific metrics. In the studied researches, Altmetrics indices have been introduced as alternative measures of traditional methods for measuring and evaluating researches and calculating the amount of scientific effects used. The results of the conducted research show that the activity in scientific social networks has led to the favor and attention of other peers and has a positive effect on the recognition of people in scientific societies and, as a result, the increase of scientometric indicators such as the H-index score and it has the number of citations received. Conclusions: Given the positive role of scientific social networks in increasing scientific indicators, officials of universities and research institutes should encourage researchers to use scientific social networks and teach them how to do it. Not only enhance their achievements, but also increase the impact and knowledge of their respective research units.

Abstract: 

Aims Altmetrics is a new indicator for evaluation of academic research, which evaluates the findings of research published in social networks. The aim of this study was to investigate the status of the outputs of researchers in the field of “ Quran and Health” in ResearchGate. Instruments & Methods This is a cross-sectional descriptive study conducted using citation analysis and scientometrics methodology. The population consisted of 230 papers retrieved from Scopus by 2018. The data were analyzed by Excel 2016 and SPSS 21 software. Findings With 67 articles, Iran had the highest number of articles in the field of Quran and Health. The United States of America, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, and Pakistan won the next places. The articles’ presence rate on the ResearchGate was 86. 1%. There was a statistically significant correlation between Scopus citation rate and ResearchGate indicators (readings and citation rates; p<0. 01). Conclusion By sharing research findings in social networks, researchers in the field of “ Quran and Health” can contribute in increasing the citation rate to the papers, and, to increase the scientific communication with other researchers, as well.

Abstract: 

Purpose: ResearchGate and LinkedIn are considered as professional research social networks, respectively, with purposes such as scientific communication, promoting the visibility of scientific and technological works, altmetrics studies, being up-to-date with the profession, and are also for job search. However, considering the changes and developments that have taken place in the last decade, we have seen a significant increase in patents registered by Iranians, especially by participation of Iranian women, in international databases such as the USPTO, which indicates the active presence of Iranian inventor women in various technological fields. Therefore, the main objective of this study is to analyze the Iranian inventor women’s scientific presence in scientific-social network LinkedIn and ResearchGate. Methodology: This applied research was conducted quantitatively, utilizing the library method and social network analysis in the field of scientometrics, along with the altimetric approach. The statistical research population is, 211 Iranian inventor women who had a patent in the USPTO database in the period of 1971–2021. Also, using the purposive sampling method, a sample of 110 inventors (52. 1%) who were members of two social-scientific networks, LinkedIn and ResearchGate, between August 30, 2022, and September 19, 2022, was selected. To collect the research required data, first, in the advanced search section of the USPTO database, three commands "ICN/IR, " "ACN/IR" and "AACO/IR" were searched. With these three commands, all patents whose country code of inventor or owner was "IR" were retrieved,but because of the similarity between some countries in this database, such as Ireland's country (Maloney,Ian (Dublin, IR)), many patents that were retrieved were not related to Iran. To solve this problem, the keyword of geographic location was used and three commands "IC/City, " "AC/City" and "AACI/City" were also searched. Here, city is referred to the provincial centers of Iran (for example, "IC/Tehran", "AC/Tehran" and "AACI/Tehran"). Then, all the data were entered into the Excel file. After merging and refining the data, we extracted the names of 211 Iranian inventor women. This information was based on 184 title patents registered in the USPTO database from 1971 to 2021, which involved at least one Iranian woman inventor. Then, each of these names was searched in two social-scientific networks, LinkedIn and ResearchGate, between 2022/08/30 and 2022/09/19. After that, the required data were collected by referring to the profile of each inventor using a checklist. Finally, the data were analyzed using Excel and Spss software. Findings: More than half of the Iranian inventor women (110 people) were scientific social network members, LinkedIn and ResearchGate. From the profile personal information viewpoint, most of them had an informal personal photo, no biography and unclear language. Most of them were Ph. D. and very few had their contact information listed in their profiles. Also, 42. 7% of them mentioned their patents on LinkedIn and 48. 2% on ResearchGate. Qudsi Mohammadi Ziarani, with 453 works on ResearchGate and 102 on LinkedIn, has contributed the most compared with other Iranian inventor women in terms of presenting publications and research articles. Additionally, in terms of the new research index interest score and other indices available in ResearchGate, Fatemeh Atyabi has the largest share compared to others, with a research interest score of 5490 and 10374 citations, h-index of 56 and 84801 readings. Conclusion: This study results indicate that the Iranian inventor women presence importance is in introducing themselves, communication, and scientific research collaboration with colleagues. Even though scientific-social networks LinkedIn and ResearchGate provide a suitable platform for more communication and interactions between users and researchers, inventors, employers, etc., but most Iranian inventor women have not used the maximum facilities and capabilities provided in these networks. Inventors can improve their personal page rank in Google results by completing their profile information in these networks and adding more details to it. They can also attract more researchers and audiences to their scientific and technological work by specifying different ways of communication in their profile. In addition, by publicly presenting their profile, inventors can increase the visibility of their work, leading to more citations and opportunities to commercialize scientific and technological products. This can serve as a pathway for entering the business world and marketing scientific products.

Abstract: 

This research uses of Scientometric indicators and social network analysis to evaluate the performance of countries in the field of information systems in Web of Science during 2004 to 2013. The results show that co-authorship network has 166 vertices (countries) and 21518 links (co-authorships). In general, co-authorship network of information systems had a high density than some fields and Solidarity of the network is partially good. There are no isolated component in the network and more possible links in this network have emerged. According to micro-level metrics, countries like America and Britain are recognized as the most influential countries in co-authorship network and can control the flow of information between network. Using the findings, policy-makers and planners of university in Iran can provide facilities for the formation and strengthening of collaborative connections with the important and influential countries.

Abstract: 

Purpose: To recognize similarities and differences of information organization in two social bookmarking websites of CiteUlike and Bibsonomy.Methodology: The specification and capabilities of two websites were identified and compared using a comparative and evaluative approach.Results: Regarding output format diversity, display options and interaction with tags, Bibsonomy functions better however CiteUlike is better considering connection possibilities.Conclusion: To manage bibliographical information having different display output formats and interacting with tags Bibsonomy is recommended and CiteULike can be used for its good connection possibilities.

Abstract: 

Introduction: The increasing impact of cyberspace and social networks in different areas necessitates the need for more and more accurate attention by the scientific institutions. Focus on ‘, the impact of social networks on a specific cultural context’,is one area of study. Isfahan, as one of the civilizational areas with a long history in the cultural and social fields, is one of the cultural contexts that has a special role in the social and cultural changes for our country. Nearly two decades after the advent of the Internet and mobile phones in Iran, it may be a good opportunity to examine the works produced by academics and researchers in the context of scientific articles in this field. Certainly, one of the appropriate methods for this purpose is the systematic review method in which the statistical population is the existing research in the field under study. In this article, we seek to answer the following questions: What are the strengths and weaknesses of scientific articles written on the subject of social networks and cyberspace in Isfahan's field problematically, theoretically, and methodologically? And, on the other hand, what is the position of Isfahan`s cultural context in this research area? Finally, on the way forward, what are some suggestions for better policy making in this field of study?

Abstract: 

Introduction: The emergence and expansion of the use of the Internet has created a new paradigm of communication and a kind of interactive Internet, called social network. Social networks are divided into two general groups, such as Facebook, Twitter and so on and specialized networks such as Research Gate, Mandeley and Accademia. The present article aimed to determine the necessities, challenges and strategies of activity in scientific social networks from the point of view of the faculty members of knowledge and information science. Methodology: This qualitative study was a grounded theory. The main method of data collection was a semi-structured interview. Data analysis was based on the analysis of three levels of Strauss and Corbin coding by using MAXQDA software. The sampling was carried out in a purposeful way and the main criterion regarding the number of interviews was to reach the theoretical saturation. Findings: Analysis of data led to the extraction of the 4 main categories including the contexts (communication interaction, knowledge search, knowledge sharing), challenges (lack of time, lack of awareness and skills), requirements (personal knowledge management, university support, activity of scientific organizations, governmental support) and effective factors (understanding of need, network capabilities), as well as 11 subcategories and 57 classes. Conclusion: The central concept of the research, called "scientific socialization", was formed in this study f. Scientific socialization brings the scientific spirit of social relations that passes through the process of socialization to the members of the community.

Abstract: 

با گذشت زمان و حرکت به سمت پیشرفت تکنولوژی، میزان استفاده از اینترنت به مرور زمان درحال افزایش می باشد. علاوه بر این، افرادی که از اینترنت استفاده می کنند شامل تمامی رده های سنی می شوند. با توجه به این دو مورد، نحوه استفاده از اینترنت در رده های سنی مختلف، متفاوت می باشد که یکی از استفاده های موثر می تواند در زمینه آموزش و امور علمی باشد. شبکه های اجتماعی بستری را در اینترنت برای گردهم آمدن کاربران ایجاد می کنند که البته در زمینه های گوناگونی می باشند که در این مقاله، زمینه علمی آن مدنظر ما می باشد. در خارج از ایران، شبکه های گوناگونی در این زمینه در حال فعالیت می باشند که در داخل ایران متاسفانه هنوز شبکه اجتماعی علمی متمرکزی وجود ندارد. به همین منظور در این مقاله به بررسی برخی از شبکه-های اجتماعی علمی خارج از کشور با توجه به معیارهای علمی و شرایط ایران پرداخته شده است. علاوه بر این، نقاط قوت و ضعف برخی از این شبکه های اجتماعی را نیز بررسی می کنیم. این بررسی ها با عضویت در این شبکه ها و با توجه به نیازها و ساختارهای داخلی ایران بررسی شده اند که نتایج آن را در این مقاله ارائه شده است.
