Abstract:

The Vancouver Obsessional Compulsive Inventory–Mental Contamination Scale (VOCI-MC) is a self-report instrument that assesses symptoms of mental contamination. The aim of this study was to investigate the psychometric properties of the Persian version of the VOCI-MC in non-clinical sample. Factor structure, convergent validity, internal consistency and temporal stability were investigated in 391 participants of general population of Shahed University, students. Results showed that Persian version of VOCI-MC had a good internal consistency and test- retest reliability. Also, convergence of this scale with OCD scores of Padoa Inventory was good. The Exploratory factor analysis showed four factors. The Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed four factors structure better fit than one factor structure. These findings suggest that the Persian version of the VOCI-MC had the adequate psychometric properties in general population. Therefore, it can be confidently used as an assessment tool of mental contamination symptoms and research settings too.

Abstract:

Aim: The purpose of this study was to investigate the psychometric properties of the VOCI in northwest of Iran With the participation of a broader non-clinical sample and Compare the results with Abedi, Izadi and Moien’ s(2012) study. Method: The method was a descriptive-correlation and statistical population consisted of all adults with no psychiatric disorder residing in the East and West Azerbaijan province (N=3437411) which 200 people were selected through cluster sampling and 40 patients with OCD selected through purposeful sampling. VOCI and Abdel-Khalek death obsession scale (DOS) used for collecting data. Data analysis was performed using SPSS-24 software Results: results showed the same extraction and validation in the present sample. Significant correlation coefficients with DOS (p=0. 0001, r =0. 56) showed Criterion validity. Cornbrash’ s alpha coefficient of validity (0/946 non-obsessional group, 0. 938 obsessional group, & 0. 952 the whole score) showed favorable internal consistency. In addition, the results of the two-tailed independent t-test showed a statistically significant difference between mean scores of the present sample (In both clinical and nonclinical samples) with the mean of normative sample (p<0. 05, df= 278, T= 2. 23 non clinical sample & p=0. 02, df= 118, T= 6. 53 clinical sample & p= 0. 0001). Using the ROC curve, a new cut-off point (91) was proposed for this tool in northwestern Iran. Conclusion: It can be concluded that VOCI has also a favorable validity and reliability in the nonclinical sample but because of cultural reasons has higher cut point in the northwest of Iran.

Abstract:

Childhood traumatic experiences irreversibly impact child’s mind and are related to obsessive-compulsive (OC) symptoms. This study aimed to examine the relationship between childhood trauma and OC symptoms with fear of self, emotional beliefs, obsessive beliefs and mental contamination mediating the relationship. This correlational study was conducted using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Three hundred students of Shiraz University in 1401-1402 selected through convenience sampling method, completed Childhood Traumatic Questionnaire (CTQ), Fear of Self Questionnaire (FOS), Emotional Beliefs Questionnaire (EBQ), Obsessive Beliefs Questionnaire (OBQ-44), Vancouver Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory (VOCI-MC) and Vancouver Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory (VOCI). Data were analyzed using SPSS-24 and AMOS-24 software. According to the findings, the modified version of the suggested model was fit. Therefore, experience of trauma during childhood leads to a state of feared self. The doubted and feared self, associated with mental pollution, obsessive beliefs, and emotional beliefs, subsequently lead intrusive thoughts experienced in sensitive domains of self to obsessive-compulsive symptoms. It seems that, considering feared-self and emotional beliefs in therapeutic plans assigned for OCD might be beneficial.

Abstract:

Objectives: This study was carried out with the aim of validation of Saving Inventory-Revised (SI-R), which includes subjects related to hoarding and the failure to discard possessions that are useless or of limited value, and occur in many clinical syndromes, especially in obsessive-compulsive disorder. Method: In this descriptive cross-sectional study 348 individuals (142 males and 206 females) were randomly selected from different schools of Allameh Tabatabaie University, and were evaluated using SI-R and Padoa Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory. Data were analyzed using factor analysis through principal component analysis, step by step multivariate regression analysis, and Pearson’s correlation coefficient. Results: To obtain structure validity, principal component analysis with Promax rotation identified three factors, namely, difficulty discarding, clutter, and hoarding. These factors accounted for 70.82% of the total variance. Examination of the validity was carried out at the same time as the administration of Padoa Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory, and results of multivariate regression analysis indicated a favorable convergent validity. In addition, validity was calculated using retest, half splitting, and internal consistency coefficient. Conclusion: Considering the features of appropriate psychometrics, the aforementioned instrument can be used in researches related to a wide variety of disorders with hoarding behavior, including obsessive-compulsive disorder, obsessive-compulsive personality disorder, schizophrenia, eating disorders, impulse control disorders, and psychosomatic disorders.

Abstract:

The main manifestation of obsessive-compulsive personality disorder is mental occupation with order, perfectionism and subjective control interpersonal whose price ends in complete loss of flexibility, tolerance and interpersonal efficiency. While in DSM-5, both obsessive-compulsive disorder and obsessive-compulsive personality disorder were classified in two distinct categories, some researchers believe that continuum approaches provide more precise conceptualization of both disorders. The purpose of this study was to research of the specific relationship between obsessive-compulsive personality and obsessive-compulsive disorder based on subtypes of OCD. To this end, in a descriptive correlational study, 400 female college students of Tehran universities were tested for obsessive-compulsive and obsessive-compulsive personality symptoms. In the second stage, 57 individuals with compulsive disorder were selected as the sample group. The results of regression analysis indicated that there was only significant relationship between "uncertainty" of OCD and obsessive-compulsive personality. The results indicate that there is no specific relationship between obsessive compulsive disorder and obsessivecompulsive disorder. However there are the great research and theoretical implications about the relationship between the two disorders that require special attention.

Abstract:

Obsessive-compulsive disorder is a debilitating disorder that can interfere with a person's functioning. This research to aim was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of psychodrama on reducing obsessive-compulsive and depression symptoms in women with obsessive-compulsive disorder in a quasi-experimental design. The population of this study included all women with obsessive-compulsive disorder referred to counseling clinics in Tehran city. Twenty-four female patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder select purposefully and voluntarily were assigned and randomly to exponential and control groups. Participants answered to the Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale and the Beck Depression Inventory in the pre-test and post-test stages. The participants in the experimental group participated in the twelve sessions, ninety-minute of psychodrama intervention and the control group not received any intervention. Data analysis was conducted using analysis of covariance and SPSS-22 statistical software. The results showed that controlling pre-test scores, the effect of the group on post-test scores of depression and obsessive-compulsive variables was significant. Therefore, it can be concluded that in people with obsessive-compulsive symptoms, psychodrama intervention can be an effective intervention in improving and reducing obsessive-compulsive symptoms and depression in patients.

Abstract:

Objective: Since the obsessive compulsive symptoms have cultural themes, understanding their frequency and variety in our society can help with more diagnosing it more precisely and setting clearer therapeutic goals. Method: In a cross-sectional research, 61 patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (23 males, 38 females) were selected by convenience sampling, and diversity and severity of their symptoms were measured using Yale- Brown scale. Subjects were clients at Tohid psychiatry and counseling center, and a private office, and the diagnoses were made by a psychiatrist (based on DSM-IV-IR).Results: This study showed that the obsessive thought mostly included contamination and aggregation, and contamination was significantly different in men and women. Compulsions were mostly checking and washing, with marked difference between the genders. There was a significant association between level of education and of contamination and somatic obsessions. -Single and married patients were different only in contamination and counting significantly. Conclusion: Patients with obsessive –compulsive disorder have distinction symptomatologic and demographic features, but can be explained cultural varieties. This has major diagnostic and clinical implications in obsessive- compulsive disorder.

Abstract:

Objectives: Since the symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorders are basically culture-bound, identification and classification of the various kinds of symptoms prevalent among obsessive-compulsive patients have clinical significance. Better identification of symptoms of obsession among Iranian patients will result in quick and timely diagnosis of the disorder. Further, it will be useful in differential diagnosis and therapeutic interventions. Method: 56 obsessive-compulsive patients from Tehran Psychiatric Institute outpatient clinic, Shahid Esmaili Hospital and private offices were selected through available sampling. In order to make accurate diagnosis of the patients, the obsessive-compulsive diagnostic checklist was used. The symptoms and the intensity of obsessive-compulsive behaviors were assessed by the Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale. Findings: The most prevalent symptoms of obsession were related to contamination, religious concerns, washing, cleaning, repetitive acts and recheckings. The symptoms of saving and storing up were least prevalent. Further more, the study demonstrated that the age of onset of the disorder was higher for females as compared to males. The intensity of the symptoms was greater among the patients who had suffered from the disorder for more than 5 years.

Abstract:

Introduction: Based on a series of previous studies, narcissistic personality disorder has been found to have comorbidity with obsessive-compulsive disorder and Internet addiction. However, other research has produced conflicting results, indicating the need for further investigation to resolve this ambiguity. The purpose of this study is to compare the differences in the symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder and internet addiction in individuals exhibiting symptoms of narcissistic personality disorder and those without such symptoms. Method: The sample for this study comprised 66 students, with 32 exhibiting symptoms of narcissistic personality disorder and 34 without such symptoms. who participated in the research by completing the Narcissistic Personality Disorder Questionnaire, the Vancouver Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Questionnaire, and the Internet Addiction Questionnaire. The research design was of the comparative causal type, and multivariate analysis of variance was used to test the hypotheses. Results: The findings indicated a significant difference between the two groups (F=24. 96, P<0. 001). Individuals exhibiting symptoms of narcissistic personality disorder showed a higher average in the components of obsessive-compulsive disorder, such as contamination fears, checking behaviors, obsessive thoughts, hoarding, perfectionism, precision, doubt, and internet addiction, compared to those without symptoms of narcissistic personality disorder. Conclusion and Discussion: The findings indicated a significant difference between the two groups (F=24. 96, P<0.
