Aim: The present paper is the result of a research which aimed to review the current level of support and training provided for the reference management software by academic libraries. Method: The data was gathered on the basis of a survey of Iranian universities’ websites. Findings: The results reveal that in about 50 percent of Iranian universities, there is no information about RMS at their websites at all. In less than half of the remaining 39 universities, central library is responsible for introducing and training of citations and RMS. Deputy of research and faculty scholarly associations have been other organizers of RMS training. Furthermore, the results show that more than 90 percent of universities perform their training in face to face format only. EndNote is the only citation management software supported approximately by all universities. Teaching other RMS, such as Mendeley or Zotero, has been very limited. Conclusion: Authors suggest that librarians themselves get instruction on using citation management tools to be able to teach library users. Also, there is a need for providing online tutorials on RMSs.

Abstract:

Purpose: The present paper aims to compare the utilization and ability of medical students in using the electronic resources of the IDL portal of Iran.Methodology: The survey was conducted through a structured questionnaire circulated among 300 medical students taken from three main universities. A stratified accidental random sample method was used for selection of respondents and interacting with them. These respondents were among those available in the university campus during the survey period. The descriptive statistics methods such as the frequency tables, column graphs and calculation of the central indexes such as “average” have been used to analyze the data which have been practiced by the Excel.Findings: The findings of this research demonstrate that the awareness and utilization level of the students in the three universities are lower than average. The students of the three universities declare the lack of acquaintance with this digital library as their most significant problem. Among the investigated universities, students of Tehran University use the EndNote, Elsevier, Thomson, Scopus and Proquest databases most. All the subject students express the effect of the IDL on the scientific activities as too much. The average points for utilization of searching strategies are 2.43, 2.89 and 2.87 respectively for Iran, Tehran and Shahid Beheshti Universities. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that the research capability of students is below average. Knowledge and ability of them must be improved.

Abstract:

Background and aims: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a prevalent and long-term condition that causes inflammation, irritation, and ulcers in the colon. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the effect of seafood oil omega-3 supplementation on UC remission. Methods: PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Scopus databases were extensively searched on 25. 5. 2022 according to the PRISMA checklist. The studies were imported into EndNote X9. Data were extracted in Excel form, including the first author’s name, study setting, year of publication, sample size, sea oil type, intervention, and outcomes. Results: Seafood oil omega-3 supplementation reduced the levels of leukotriene B4, interleukin (IL)-2, IL-8, IL-1β, thromboxane A2, prostaglandin E2, scavenges-free radicals, and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). In addition, supplementation with this oil could decrease free radicals at the cellular level and subsequently increase antioxidant activity, which also mediates the inflammatory process itself. Conclusion: Most studies showed that omega-3 extracted from seafood can reduce inflammation and oxidative stress (OS) in intestinal cells. It also could improve clinical symptoms and scores of histological, sigmoidoscopic, and simple clinical colitis activity index (SCCAI). However, some studies reported no positive effects in this regard and confirmed that these compounds have no effect on improving UC symptoms.
