Abstract:

Development of modern energies is one of the most important issues that all countries have focused on and have tried to find a new model in that respect. One of the greatest energy-resources in the world is oceans and tidal currents are one of the specific indicators of oceanic current. The movement of oceans waters caused by tidal current has a great deal of energy. On the other hand, development of new energies causes to search new plan in all countries. In this study, the potential energy obtained from daily, monthly and eventually annually average of 18-years (1990-2007) tidal range difference data in the Chabahar station. The average of tidal range was 2.09 m. The average energy estimated to be 5.5 w/m2 and the average power estimated to be 0.44 w/m2. According to the obtained results, producible energy of tidal currents in Chabahar is very low and it has no economic importance.

Abstract:

Gorgan BAY (GB) is a semi-enclosed basin located southeast of the Caspian Sea (CS), Iran. The BAY was registered as a biosphere reserve in 1976 and had an international focus on conservation. GB severely suffers from low water quality and water level. A hydrodynamic model was used to determine its general circulation, differences in temperature, water elevation, and current speed. This investigation includes the study of current vectors' profiles and analyzing the effects of rivers and air pressure in the circulation of this water body. The average current speed was determined to be 0.1 m/s through the BAY. The lowest and highest temperatures were investigated and were -0.53°C and +36.57°C, respectively. The general circulation is mostly counter-clockwise. Water elevation and temperature inside GB always follow a seasonal sinusoidal pattern. This paper neglects the effects of rivers on GB hydrodynamics due to their insignificance discharge. Also, the air pressure has a profound effect on the water level. Current vectors showed that while current speed inside this water body has decreased in the past decade, the temperature increased by almost 7°C.

Abstract:

Extreme coastal inundation associated with the 2004 Indian Ocean and 1945 Makran tsunamigenic– earthquakes highlight the risk of tsunamis to coastlines of the northern Oman Sea. Foraminifera have been used as indicators of paleotsunamis in the past where allochthonous tests, found in low– energy environments such as in coastal lagoons, ponds, and marshes, indicate marine overwash. In this study, we constrain the modern distributions of foraminifera from coastal Iran so that they may be used to identify and interpret (e. g. assess provenance) paleotsunami deposits in the geologic record. We collected surface sediment samples from sixteen sites within the study area from Chabahar to Gawater BAYs on the Makran coast of Iran, selecting locations impacted by the 1945 Makran tsunami. Foraminifera obtained from these locations are dominated by supratidal, intertidal, and subtidal species, with minor abundances of planktic taxa. Samples collected from study locations are characterized by abundances of iron– stained and heavily corroded (e. g. edge rounded and pitted) individuals. Cluster analysis was used to determine three foraminiferal assemblages within the Makran coastal zone: subtidal, intertidal and supratidal. Characterizing modern distributions of foraminifera along the Makran coast of Iran will aid in identifying the provenance of older overwash deposits previously identified in this region.

Abstract:

HEAT BUDGET IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTORS IN PHYSICAL STUDY OF SEAS AND OCEANS. DUE TO ITS EFFECT ON ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND LEVELING MARINE STRUCTURES AS WELL AS SEA WATER LEVEL, STUDY OF HEAT BUDGET HAS OF A GREAT IMPORTANCE. STUDYING VARIOUS PARAMETERS INCLUDING THE SUNSHINE ANGEL, CLOUDINESS OF THE SKY, ALBEDO OF WATER SURFACE, AIR SPECIAL HUMIDITY, ATMOSPHERE STRUCTURE, SHORTWAVE SUNSHINE, NET SUNSHINE WITH LONG-WAVE, SENSIBLE HEAT TRANSFER, EVAPORATION HEAT TRANSFER, HEAT TRANSFER BY OCEANIC STREAMS AND RAINING, WIND SPEED, AND LOCAL DIMENSIONLESS (SENSIBLE AND LATENT HEAT FLUX COEFFICIENT), THIS STUDY HAS CALCULATED THE HEAT BUDGET FLUX IN THE BAY ON THE BASIS OF DATA OBTAINED FROM IRANIAN METEOROLOGICAL ORGANIZATION AND THE MOST RECENT FORMULATIONS. THE RESULTS SHOW THAT IN THE YEAR OF 2005, CHABAHAR BAY SAW THE SHORT-WAVE RADIATION FLUX OF (+227.56 W/M2), NET LONG-WAVE FLUX OF (-59.91 W/M2), INSENSIBLE EVAPORATION HEAT FLUX OF (-112.16 W/M2), AND SENSIBLE HEAT FLUX OF (-8.00W/M2). CONSIDERING THE ABOVE MENTIONED PARAMETERS, HEAT BUDGET FLUX IN THIS BAY IS EQUALS TO (+47.49 W/M2). IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE HEAT BALANCE, IT IS REQUIRED THAT SUCH HEAT FLUX EXIT FROM THE BAY THROUGH WATER EXCHANGE BETWEEN OMAN SEA AND CHABAHAR BAY AS WELL AS RAINING.

Abstract:

Chabahar BAY is a semi-closed and shallow BAY in southeastern of Iran and is strongly affected by the monsoon conditions. The 3D FVCOM model was used to study the hydrodynamic conditions of Chabahar BAY. For this purpose, a horizontal grid with 6290 triangular elements and a vertical grid with 10 sigma layers were created. The model was implemented in baroclinic mode; NCEP data and HYCOM model outputs were used to account for open surface and boundary layer forces. Water level and flow velocity correlations show acceptable agreement with field data. The tidal BAY is often semi-daily and mixed and the tidal range is 2. 7 m. The flushing time of Chabahar BAY was calculated to be 6. 7 days. The modeling results show; The vertically and annual average current velocity is 0. 1 m/s and the rotation pattern is often anticyclonic.

Abstract:

Scholars are slowly trying to re-edit the Shahnama and in this, they sometimes ask for help from pre-Islamic languages and documents. It is natural to find in the Shahnama reflections of the conditions of the Sassanid era and administrative terms common in that period. In this article, an attempt has been made to identify a Sasanian title, which seems not to have been recognized by the editors, by examining some letters from Sasanian kings or addressed to them, recorded in the Shahnama, in which several titles and epithets are repeated in a formulaic form. For this purpose, it has been tried to check the manuscripts of the Shahnama carefully and to show the origin of the title in the Sasanian documents. This title is “BAY rāmšahr”, recorded in the best editions of the Shahnama, especially in Khaleghi’s edition as “padrām-shahr”. At the end of the discussion, an attempt has been made to prove that “mahast”, which is repeated in the same letters next to “BAY rāmšahr”, again in a formulaic form, is nothing but a corruption of the term “mazdēsn”. But this corruption is not from Ferdowsi or the scribes of the Shahnama. This happened most probably long before the composition of the Shahnama in the transmission of Sasanian documents to Arabic and Persian script and with the same form found its way to Abu Mansuri’s and Ferdowsi’s Shahnama.

Abstract:

BUSHEHR IS ONE OF THE POLITICALLY AND ECONOMICALLY IMPORTANT PORTS OF IRAN. CONSIDERING THE COMPLICATED NATURE AND SEVERE SEDIMENTATION HISTORY IN THIS PORT, SEDIMENTATION STUDIES ARE CONSIDERED TO BE DONE IN THE PRESENT RESEARCH. IN THE PRESENT ARTICLE, A HORIZONTAL TWO-DIMENSIONAL MODEL IS APPLIED FOR NUMERICAL MODELING OF THE STUDY AREA. THE EQUATIONS DETACHING IS DONE BY FINITE DIFFERENCE METHOD ON A REGULAR NETWORK. THE BORDER CONDITION FOR LOCAL MODEL WAS USED FROM INTERFACE MODEL WHICH ITSELF TAKES THE CONDITION BORDER FROM REGIONAL MODEL. CONSIDERING THE COMPLICATED NATURE AND THE PERSIAN GULF EXTENSIVENESS, THE ISSUE OF MODEL CALIBRATION IS OF SPECIAL IMPORTANCE. FOR CALIBRATION OF THE MODEL, FIELD STUDIES DONE FOR HYDRODYNAMIC PARAMETERS WERE APPLIED. COMPARISON OF THE MEASURED RESULTS AND THE RESULTS OF NUMERICAL MODELING REVEALS THAT THERE IS AN APPROPRIATE CONCORDANCE BETWEEN THESE TWO RESULTS.
