Abstract: 

Background: Bioaerosol is defined as airborne particles such as living organisms include bacteria, fungi and their related metabolites, such as endotoxin. Over the recent years, health effects of Bioaerosols such as infectious and respiratory diseases, acute toxic effects, allergies and cancer have been considered. The aim of this study was to evaluate the bacterial and fungal concentrations in indoor air of various environments.Methods: This cross - sectional study was conducted in 2013. A single-stage Andersen biosampler was used for the bacterial and fungal collection in the air of indoor environments. A total of 240 samples (60 samples of bacteria and 60 samples of fungus with repeat) were analyzed. The effects of environmental factors such as temperature and humidity on Bioaerosol concentrations were also evaluated.Findings: The highest average concentration of airborne bacteria was seen in the residential environments 944 CFU/m3 and the highest fungal concentration 102 CFU/m3 was obtained in school classrooms. However, indoor air of offices and university classrooms had the lowest concentration of bacterial and fungal Bioaerosols with the overall mean of 132 and 36 CFU/m3, respectively.Conclusion: According to the results, the Bioaerosol concentration in the indoor air of some environments was higher than of WHO guideline, which can cause health risks and respiratory diseases, especially in children and people who are sensitive. Increasing the ventilation rate by mechanical equipment or natural systems can be effective in improving indoor air quality.

Abstract: 

Introduction: Exposure to Bioaerosols is related to a grand range of sanitation’s effects including intense poisoning effects, allergy and cancer. This study has done to determine the type and concentration Bioaerosols in the air of one of the industrial live stocks slaughterhouse in Shiraz.Material and Method: A total of 112 air samples from different parts of industrial live stocks slaughterhouse are collected in this cross-sectional study. According to the NIOSH method, Bioaerosols sampling was done in blood agar medium and dextro agar and by Anderson one-stage sampler withflow rate of 28.3 Lit/min, sampling duration of 10 minutes and concentration measured in CFU/m3.Result: According to the result, the most pollution is in blood cook place (3281.44 CFU/m3) and the least pollution exists in meat delivery place (99.1 CFU/m3). Also the result of the study showed that Bioaerosols concentration in industrial live stocks slaughterhouse is 28 times more than its concentration in reference site. Which is 5 km from slaughterhouse and 5 species of fungi were observe which aspergillus niger and penicillium were dominat.Conclusion: Bioaerosols concentration in live stocks industrial slaughterhouse is higher than the threshold limit and suggested range. Therefore, it is essential to take measures, such as improving the process and technical-engineering interventions including the use of suitable ventilation systems and also management personal monitoring measures.

Abstract: 

Background & objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the exposure of individuals to bacterial Bioaerosols in indoor air and to investigate the factors affecting their concentration in Ardabil city. In this study, 12 Sports halls (including futsal, volleyball, and bodybuilding halls) were selected and the samples of bacterial Bioaerosols were taken from their indoor air. Methods: Air sampling was performed using Anderson's single-stage sampler with a discharge rate of 28. 3 liters per minute and a respiratory range of 10 minutes. Results: The results showed that the mean concentration of bacteria in all gyms was 494. 24 CFU/m3. The concentration of bacteria in the gyms of Mohaghegh Ardabili, Medical Sciences, Islamic Azad and Payam Noor were 203. 5, 728. 5, 504. 6 and 576 CFU/m3, respectively. The average bacterial concentration in the air was 60. 5 CFU/m3. The dominant species of bacteria in indoor air were Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Bacillus, respectively. Conclusion: According to the results of this study, it is found that the concentration of bacterial Bioaerosols is high in indoor air of sports halls and these halls can be considered as a potential hazard and cause respiratory diseases in athletes who use these halls.

Abstract: 

Introduction: Bioaeroslos released from wastewater treatment plants may contain pathogens existing in the sewage which could endanger the health of workers. The aim of this study was to evaluate the status of Bioaerosol emissions form in a sanitary wastewater treatment plant.Material and Method: This cross-sectional study was carried out in different units of a sanitary wastewater treatment plant. For this purpose, air samples were collected on blood agar and dextro agar in an Andersen single-stage sampler withflow of 28.3 lit/min for 10 minutes. Collected samples were shipped to the lab immediately and incubated for 48 hours. Then, incubated samples were counted for colonies concentration.Result: Based on the result of this study, the mean density of bacterial and fungal Bioaerosols in all wastewater treatment plants were 412.86±23.30 and 53.72±23.99 CFU/m3, respectively. Microbial contamination of the air within a kilometer away from the site (control areas) was 17 times less than its average density.Conclusion: Wastewater treatment processes can contaminate the air surrounding the plant, particularly with bacteria Bioaerosols. Therefore, it is necessary to control the emissions and protect the health of workers against risks arising from exposure to Bioaerosols.
