Abstract:

One may say that The Open Society and Its Enemies (OS) offered in 1945 the first complete elaboration of the general approach proposed by Karl Popper, namely his ‘critical rationalism’, a bold generalization of the fallibilist falsificationism in the domain of the empirical sciences masterly proposed in Logik der Forschung (1934). The political content of The OS has been critically discussed. Nevertheless, not all people insist on the equally important moral dimension of the book, giving it its unity, I submit. Without morality, no critical discussion, no reason, no open society, let us say in a nutshell. I would argue that according to Popper, a strictly Christian morality of LOVE would not be the appropriate emotional companion of critical rationalism, but that the less demanding moral emotion of sympathy or compassion is perhaps necessary to give it its force against violence. I give some support to this line of argument. In my view, Popper proposed a somewhat unarticulated critical rationalist ‘emotivism’ of sorts. The emotion of compassion is necessary for triggering our moral decisions and values, which are the ultimate basis of the choice for a reason against violence.

Abstract:

The present research examines the concept of LOVE in two separate and distinct spheres. On the one hand, LOVE is considered as a transcendental experience and concept that is static and related to a meta-human truth. This type of reading of LOVE is mainly initiated and developed through Plato’s writings. On the other, there is a view that considers LOVE (even in its Platonic sense) a humane, cultural and more importantly “textual” phenomenon. In other words, LOVE can only be understood, multiplied and experienced within language (or as Jacques Lacan calls, “symbolic order”). In this paper, I have studied these two views in relation to the collection of short stories entitled, LOVE on the Sidewalk, written by the contemporary Iranian writer, Mostafa Mastour. In order to do this, I have first studied the concept of ‘absence’ in LOVE and how the experience of LOVE always depends on the absence of the LOVEr or the beLOVEd. I then argue that LOVE, in these stories, is a ‘sign’ that is constructed and signified with a system of signs. And finally I illustrate how the characters in these stories fall in LOVE and understand LOVE through “narratives of LOVE”. All this would give LOVE a plural and narrative significance. LOVE is therefore a sign that is always in the process of being constructed.

Abstract:

Lyric poem expresses the speaker's personal feelings and emotions, and if it includes some different meanings and thoughts, they are used to express the speaker's emotions. Sonnet is the most common type of lyric poem whose theme is LOVE. Whether romantic or mystical, the emotion of LOVE cannot falsely be attributed to self before it is united and harmonized with the poet’s life. This is why the emotional and often real intimacy of LOVE affects the lyric language. As human is a being full of conflicting emotions like LOVE and hatred, happiness and sadness, etc., lyrical literature and sonnet can be an appropriate field for these required for goodness. It is the beLOVEd’s beauty that charms the LOVEr and engenders LOVE. As the first offspring of beauty, LOVE brings warmness and energy which can enliven all the creatures in the world. This article aims at studying the connections between sonnet and LOVE as well as LOVE and beauty through text analysis method.

Abstract:

LOVE, this eminent humane experience, has been explored not only by writers and poets, but also by philosophers, psychologists and even experimental scientists. This paper aims to discuss a novel aspect in phenomenology of LOVE, as the concept of destructive and constructive nature of LOVE, which is to the best of our knowledge, presented for the first time. The fundamental idea of this paper was obtained from verses of Hafiz, then polished by theories of Robert Cloninger and several other thinkers in the field of human emotions. Many verses of Hafiz display LOVE experience as a necessary step towards growth, in a way that could be evinced further by the development of the "self-aware psych" introduced by Cloninger. He introduces the "self-aware psych" as one of the three constituting domains of human mind and personality, the intuitive essence bringing integrity for personality. If self-aware psych flourishes by favorable growth and development, it would prepare the ground for creativity, wisdom and well-being, otherwise, personality disorders would be contingent. The destructive and constructive nature of LOVE, towards development of self-awareness and mental growth, is further determined by re-explaining the proposed theory of "ego as a complex" by Carl Jung, the theory of "network of intentionality" by John Searle, and the theory of "emotional processing" by Edna Foa and Michael Kozak in this context.

Abstract:

One of the prominent issues that has engaged the thoughts of philosophers and mystics is the compatibility and incompatibility between reason and LOVE, some of which have emphasized the compatibility, and some the incompatibility of the two. The examination of this issue is of particular importance in the Quranic LOVE-centered ethics. This article has been investigated using a descriptive-analytical method that not only is there no incompatibility between the two, but there is complete harmony based on the Peripatetic school, Illumination school, Transcendent theosophy, mysticism, and the Allāma Tabātabāī’ view and some of his students. The purpose of this research is to examine the compatibility or incompatibility between reason and LOVE in the school of Quranic LOVE-centered ethics. The results of the paper show that although some levels of LOVE are not understandable to reason due to their greatness and honor, there is no conflict either, and without reason and rationality, it is not possible to reach true LOVE and its levels, and true LOVE is born of reason. Because, by reason, a person can gain true knowledge and understanding of the true beLOVEd, and turn to it and move towards it. Therefore, not only is there no opposition between these two, but there is compatibility and mutuality. Until the levels of reason and the connection between these levels are clarified, it is not possible to achieve true LOVE and morality based on it, and false LOVE and morality based on it cannot be repelled.

Abstract:

This article aims to clarify the place of monotheism of LOVE and monotheistic LOVE in the Islamic lifestyle. For a long time, there has been a difference of opinion among Muslim thinkers about the place of wisdom and LOVE in the Islamic lifestyle. A group considers Islamic life style based on wisdom and another group considers it based on the heart and other group considers it based on the both. In this article, first the concepts of monotheism of LOVE and monotheistic LOVE have been expressed and their places have been studied in the Holy Qur'an and authentic traditions. The findings of this research show that in the monotheistic approach that God is infinite LOVE, He gives his infinite LOVE to all beings, especially humans. As a result, in the Islamic lifestyle, the true believers, for the sake of Allah, fill their entire being with LOVE for God and His creations. This is the same concept of monotheism of LOVE and monotheistic LOVE that true believers try their best to globalize and establish Islamic civilization based on them.

Abstract:

Shahriar's sonnets are amongst the most delicate sonnets in Persian literature. The reason for this beauty and elegance is rooted in the poet’s real experience as attested throughout his life. One may manifestly encounter in Shahriar’s sonnets romantic moods, e.g., the first sparkles of romance, crisis, perplexity, failure, worry, and anxiety. This article intends to discuss the positive and negative aspects of the poet’s life based on the evidence found in his sonnets.

Abstract:

The spirit of a nation is reflected in its folklore, which provides a perfect field for study. Kurdish folklore forms a major part of Iranian popular literature, including stories and poetry. Such folklore is developed within a nation and mirrors the feeling and lifestyle of the people in old era. If such works are not compiled and recorded, they will be soon removed from memories of the people. The present article is an endeavor to show the recognition of such necessity. This article tries to deal with the history of poetry in Kurdish and Persian literature, spoken LOVE songs or poems, the structure of LOVE stories, the style of LOVE songs, the difference between Beits (LOVE songs) and anecdotes, LOVE in LOVE songs, classification of Beits, reciters of Beits and lyric poems, plus a few LOVE Beits.
