Abstract: 

Anticonvulsant effect of the aqueous decoction and ethanolic maceration extracts SALVIA LERIIFOLIA seed and LEAF was studied in mice. In pentylenetetrazole (90 mg/kg, i.p.) test, the aqueous extract of LEAF and the ethanolic extract of seed prolonged the onset time of clonic convulsion while the aqueous extract of seed and the ethanolic extract of LEAF had no effect on this test. Non of the extracts of seed and LEAF showed anticonvulsant activity in maximal electroshock test. These results indicate that the extracts of S. LERIIFOLIA seed and LEAF may have efficacy in petit mal seizure.

Abstract: 

In the present study, we have reported the total phenolic content, total flavonoid content, antioxidant and antimicrobial activity of aerial parts of SALVIA LERIIFOLIA extracts and fractions. Methanolic, n-hexane, chloroform, and ethyl acetate extracts were screened to analysis their antioxidant activities by four complementary test systems, namely DPPH free radical scavenging activity (RSA), total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC), and ferrous ion cheating (FIC). In most cases the LEAF extracts and ethyl acetate fraction had more activity.The methanolic extracts of LEAF and flower showed considerable antimicrobial activity using disc diffusion method against Escherichia coli, Streptococcus pneumonia, Acinetobacter, Serratia, Pseudomonas aeruginosa.The extracts showed the highest activity against P. aeruginosa andK. pneumonia.

Abstract: 

Background: It has been shown that SALVIA LERIIFOLIA BENTH. has various pharmacological effects such as anti-hyperglycemia, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, muscle relaxant and sedative effect. There is a considerable potential for usage of this plant during pregnancy. However, its effects on embryonic development have not been examined. Objective: In this study, the in vivo fetotoxicity of S. LERIIFOLIA aqueous and alcoholic extracts were evaluated in mice. Method: For this purpose, 10% and 30% of the maximal tolerated dose (MTD) of aqueous or alcoholic extracts were daily injected intraperitoneally in pregnant mice on GD=6 (Gestation Day) to GD=14. On GD=18, embryos were harvested by Cesarean section and then morphological structures and skeletal anomalies were evaluated. Other embryos were fixed and stained for bone and cartilage assessments.Results: Both doses of alcoholic and aqueous extracts caused significant decrease in weight gain of pregnant mice; length and weight of fetuses were also reduced remarkably compared to the control group. Alcoholic and aqueous extracts caused some abnormalities such as spina bifida, limb abnormalities, abdominal bleeding, and bone abnormalities. Conclusion: This study presents strong evidence that S. LERIIFOLIA can cause numerous embryotoxicities. Thus, pregnant women should be careful in using this herb during pregnancy and it is best to avoid its use until further studies are performed.

Abstract: 

Norouzak is an important medicinal plant belongs to Lamiaceae. This plant is being to estinction risk in Iran, because its natural growth location was destructed. Proliferation and rhyzogenesis of plantlets from seeds were investigated. Seeds were striled with 0.1% HgCl2 and cultured in MS medium (0.5 Nitrate and 20 gr/l-sucrose). After 3 weeks plantlets were cut from collar point, recultured in the MS medium (0.5 Nitrate and 20 gr/l sucrose) with different concentrations of BAP and 2ip hormones in 6 treatments and 5 replications for proliferation. Produced shoots were put in MS medium with 7 treatments and 5 replications in different concentrations of IBA and IAA hormons for rhyzogenesis. Results showed that MS medium (0.5 Nitrate and 20 gr/l sucrose) with 0.3 mg/l BAP and 0.1 mg/l IBA is the best treatment for shooting. The best treatment for rooting was MS medium with 1 mg/l NAA.

Abstract: 

SALVIA LERIIFOLIA (Lamiaceae) is endemic of Khorasan and Semnan provinces and is an endangered plant. In this research, for the first time, micropropagation of this plant was studied through shoot tip proliferation. Plantlets were obtained via embryo culture in 1/2 MS culture medium supplemented with 1 mg/L BAP and 1 mg/L NAA. For micropropagation, shoot tips of the plantlet were cultured on MS medium supplemented with different concentration of BAP and KIN alone or in combination with IBA. For rooting, MS medium containing different concentration of IBA, NAA and 2, 4-D was used. Statistical analysis was performed according to the JMP and MSTAT-C software. The results showed that combination of BAP and IBA was appropriate for shoot proliferation and MS medium containing 2 mg/L BAP and 0.5 mg/L IBA was optimum for proliferation. Also, auxin was necessary for root formation and the best treatment for rooting was MS medium supplemented with 1 mg/L IBA. It could be concluded that, this treatment might be recommended for micro propagation of SALVIA LERIIFOLIA via shoot tip culture.

Abstract: 

جمعیت های گیاهی موجود در رویشگاهای طبیعی از مهم ترین منابع تنوع ژنتیکی محسوب می شوند بنابراین در هر برنامه اصلاحی اولین و مهم ترین قدم بررسی تنوع ژنتیکی موجود در میان توده های مختلف می باشد. از این رو این تحقیق با هدف بررسی درصد اسانس موجود در توده های مختلف گیاه دارویی- صنعتی نوروزک، شناسایی توده برتر و جهت نهایت اهلی کردن گونه مورد نظر انجام شد. به منظور تعیین درصد اسانس سرشاخه های هوایی و گلدار 12 جمعیت از گونه مورد آزمایش را در سال 1389 از رویشگاه های اصلی این گیاه (با در نظر گرفتن بعد مسافت جهت بررسی تنوع) واقع در استان های خراسان جنوبی، خراسان رضوی و سمنان جمع آوری شد. پس از خشک کردن نمونه در سایه، استخراج اسانس به روش تقطیر با آب طبق فارماکوپه بریتانیا به مدت 4 ساعت انجام شد. نتایج حاصل از تجزیه و تحلیل داده ها با استفاده از نرم افزار SAS نشان داد که اختلاف معنی داری بین مقادیر اسانس به دست آمده در رویشگاه های مختلف وجود دارد. عملکرد اسانس بین 1.5 (جمعیت بجستان) و 69/ (جمعیت طبس سبزوار) درصد حجمی وزنی متغیر بود. بطوری که بیشترین و کمترین میزان اسانس به ترتیب مربوط به توده های بجستان و طبس سبزوار با مقدار 1.5 و 69/ درصد می باشد. نتایج حاصل از این آزمایش نشان می دهد که از نظر عملکرد اسانس تفاوت معنی داری بین جمعیت های های مختلف وجود دارد که این تفاوت می تواند ناشی از عوامل محیطی یا ژنتیکی و یا برهمکنش این دو عامل باشد که باید در مطالعات آینده سهم هر یک از این عوامل در تنوع ایجاد شده مورد بررسی قرار گیرد.
