Abstract:

Background: We report 2 cases of partial arhinia (hemiarhinia) with its complete manifestations, which is a very rare congenital abnormality. Reviewing the literature showed that there were only three cases was reported. This defect can be classified as Cleft no. 1, rare craniofacial clefts which were reported by Paul Tessier on 1976.Methods: The patient was treated continuously for past 9y. and different reconstructive procedure was carried out on him to get more symmetric and natural looking appearance. Results: In our opinion, we could not reach a favorable outcome due to complex and multi organ anomaly. Since these cases refer to physicians at early ages, reconstruction with complex flaps such as forehead is far from satisfactory due to a lack of available tissue. Conclusions: These patients suffer from their congenital anomalies, mean while reconstruction of absence of half of the nasal cavity could complicated by injuries on eyes and check bones. Multi specialty teams to cover all anomalies are mandatory and staged reconstruction to have more available tissue and better results are recommended.

Abstract:

Purpose: To report surgical repair of a rare case of Tessier number 9 craniofacial cleft. Methods: Case report. Results: Tessier number 9 craniofacial cleft is the rarest cleft anomaly. This article reports a congenital eyelid coloboma in a 21-year-old woman that involved the lateral third of the left upper eyelid and extended to the lateral canthus, consistent with number 9 craniofacial cleft Tessier classification. The additional findings included a fibrotic band between the globe and the remnant of the upper lid, which caused a small-angle exotropia. There were also skin appendages in the preauricular area and the inner surface of the nasal columella consistent with Goldenhar syndrome. The eyelid coloboma was repaired by releasing the adhesions and using a composite graft of the hard palate to repair the posterior lamella. The anterior lamella was repaired by creating a skin advancement flap. The esthetic and functional outcomes were acceptable in the 2-year postoperative follow-up period. Conclusion: The composite hard palate graft can be used to repair posterior lamella defect in the case of Tessier number 9 craniofacial cleft.

Abstract:

DETERMINATION OF THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF THE METAL IS NOT SUITABLE INDICATOR TO POLLUTION ESTIMATION; BECAUSE THAT METALS ARE IN EXCHANGEABLE FORMS, CARBONATE UNITS, OXIDES, SULFIDES AND ORGANIC COMPOUNDS AND CRYSTAL STRUCTURE OF MINERALS. DEPENDING TO THE METAL BOND WITH EACH OF THESE COMPONENTS, THE MOBILITY AND ACCESS TO THEIR BIOLOGICAL MATTER WILL BE DIFFERENT.IN THIS STUDY, TESSIER SEQUENTIAL METHOD HAS BEEN USED TO DISTINGUISH THE DIFFERENT FORMS OF ELEMENTS IN THE SEDIMENT. THE ABILITY OF SOLUBILITY HAS BEEN INCREASED FROM ONE PHASE TO THE NEXT PHASE AND FINALLY, IT REACHES TO VERY STRONG AND HIGHLY ACIDIC WHICH IS CAPABLE TO DESTROY THE CRYSTAL LATTICE OF MINERALS. THE MAIN PURPOSE OF THIS RESEARCH IS USE OF TESSIER METHOD FOR THE SEPARATION OF DIFFERENT PHASE OF HEAVY METALS (CADMIUM AND ZINC) IN THE BED SEDIMENTS OF SHAHID RAJAEI PIER AND STEEL PIER. SEDIMENTS BY USING OF VANVEEN GRAB IN SHAHID RAJAEI PIER AND STEEL PIER. AFTER DRYING AND PREPARATION OF SEDIMENTS, TESSIER SEQUENTIAL EXTRACTION OF ZINC AND CADMIUM WAS DONE AND METAL IN EACH PHASED HAS BEEN MEASURED BY ATOMIC ABSORPTION SPECTROMETRY, AND FINALLY, THE DISTRIBUTION OF METALS IN EXCHANGEABLE FORMS, CARBONATE, BOND WITH OXIDES OF IRON AND MANGANESE, ORGANIC PHASE AND PARTS OF STRUCTURES CRYSTAL (STABLE) HAS BEEN EVALUATED. RESULTS INDICATES THAT THE DISTRIBUTION OF ZINC AND CADMIUM BY TESSIER METHOD IN SHAHID RAJAEI AND STEEL PIER ARE STABLE>ORGANIC>EXCHANGEABLE> CARBONATE>FE–MN BOUND. IN ADDITION, THE RATHER HIGH CONCENTRATION OF METALS IN PART OF DEPENDENCE TO MINERAL MATERIALS (STABLE) SHOWS THAT THE CONCENTRATIONS OF METALS IN THESE SEDIMENTS RELATED TO THE NATURAL AND GEOLOGICAL CONDITIONS ALONG WITH A LOW TOXICITY. ALSO, RESULTS OF THIS RESEARCH SHOWS THAT ACCESSIBLE PART OF METALS IN SHORES OF SHAHID RAJAEI PIER AND STEEL PIER HAS BEEN SPECIFIED LOW PARTS OF TOTAL CONCENTRATIONS OF CADMIUM AND ZINC METALS.

Abstract:

The role of calcium (Ca) in the cycle of phosphorus in water environment depends on the speciation of Ca in sediments, and reliable Ca sequential extraction method is useful for obtaining information about Ca transport processes from sediment to water. Experiments have been carried out to develop a simple but robust Ca sequential extraction method for identification of Ca portioning in sediments. The sequential extraction protocol was modified for extractants, extracting time, concentration and pH of the reagents in the first three steps of Tessier sequential procedure. With optimum conditions, there were 1:25 sediment to solution ratio and 3 h of extracting time shaken with NH4AC (1 mol L-1, pH 7.0) (exchangeable Ca fraction); 1:25 sediment to solution ratio and extracted with NH4AC (1 mol L-1, pH 5.0) for 5 h (carbonate-bound Ca fraction); and 1:30 sediment to solution ratio and extracted with NH2OH.HCl (0.5 mol L-1, pH 1.5) for 6 h (Fe and Mn oxides bound Ca fraction). The recovery for Tessier procedure ranged form 35.6 to 71.1 %, while the recovery for the modified Tessier procedure ranged form 46.1 to 86.9 %. These results revealed that Tessier procedure underestimated the proportion of Ca in exchangeable fraction. In sediments, Ca was mainly exchangeable and carbonate bound, which was considered as the most liable fractions.

Abstract:

The aim of this study was to investigate the chemical forms of lead (Pb), zinc (Zn), cadmium (Cd), and copper (Cu) in two concentrations and three pH values in a calcareous soil. Metals as nitrate salts were added at two levels of 1. 0 and 10 mmol kg-1 for Pb and Zn and at two levels of 0. 1 and 1 mmol kg-1 for Cu and Cd all at three levels of pH (6, 7 and 8). The soil to solution ratio (w/v) was 1 to 20. The soils were incubated at 30± 1 ° C for 30 days. Chemical forms of metals in the soils were determined by Tessier method. The results showed that the distribution of native forms of Pb and Zn was independent of pH. With increasing pH values from 6 to 8, the residual form of Cu decreased, whereas its organic form increased. Regarding the limit of quantitation (LOQ) for the atomic absorption instrument, the native cadmium was not measureable. The effect of pH on metal distribution between different forms varied with respect to metal nature and its concentration. The oxide and organic forms were dominant in low concentration of Pb and the oxide and carbonate forms were dominant in high concentration of this metal. Moreover, the added Zn and Cu were mainly dominated in oxide and organic forms, respectively. The added Cd was accumulated in organic form at low concentration and accumulated in exchangeable form at high concentration. Based on results, a 10-fold increase in the initial concentration of metals led to a mean 1. 8-fold increase in mobility factor. The mobility factor did not show any considerable change with increase of pH.

Abstract:

The objective of the present study was to assess the Non-structured kinetic models of microorganisms used in biological desulfurization of hydrogen sulfide from gas stream in a batch bioreactor. The microorganisms used for the removal of hydrogen sulfide were originated from a hot spring. The experiments were conducted with mixed gas at operating temperatures of 25 to 45° C with a time interval of 5h. Different kinetic models such as Monod, Logistic, Tessier, Moser and Verhulst are considered and compared by means of statistical tools. Temperature of 35° C revealed the highest regression values by fitting the experimental data obtained from measurement of bacterial growth and substrate utilization with all used models. At this temperature, the achieved regression values for Monod, Logistic, Tessier, Moser and Verhulst models were 0. 95, 0. 98, 0. 92, 0. 93 and 0. 91, respectively which were reasonably acceptable. The maximum specific growth rates were also determined to be 0. 315, 0. 240, 0. 858, 0. 33 and 0. 143 for Monod, Logistic, Tessier, Moser and Verhulst model, respectively. In addition, the hydrogen sulfide removal was 72% at 35° C. The maximum cell dry weight was 0. 733 g. l-1 which achieved by Verhulst model. The inhibition coefficient was another parameter which was evaluated as a parameter affecting growth kinetics. As the gas temperature was increased to 45 ° C, the inhibition coefficient may be dominated in growth kinetic. In overall, the microorganism isolated from a hot spring was capable of oxidizing sulfur compound and caused an acceptable amount of the hydrogen sulfide to be removed.

Abstract:

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Solid wastes are composed of organic and inorganic pollutants (heavy metals) that can contaminate soil, underground and surface water; resulting in serious health challenges to humans. The bioavailability of cadmium, chromium, copper, lead and nickel on dumpsite soils, were investigated during the wet and dry seasons of 2018 by a sequential extraction method (Tessier). METHODS: The soils were sampled from eight points within each of two dumpsites in Ilisan-Remo, Ogun State. Top soil of 0– 15 cm depth was sampled, air-dried and sieved. The extracted soil samples were analysed for heavy metal concentrations using flame atomic absorption spectrometer. FINDINGS: In the dumpsite soils examined, cadmium, chromium, copper and lead were majorly bound to the residual fractions at the first and second dumpsites, respectively for both seasons with mean concentrations (mg/kg) of: Cd – 0. 65 ± 0. 12 and 1. 20 ± 0. 07, Cr – 36. 83 ± 5. 70 and 26. 83 ± 3. 57, Cu – 28. 37 ± 3. 69 and 8. 04 ± 0. 32, Pb – 12. 40 ± 2. 34 and 14. 11 ± 2. 44, but Ni was found mainly in the Fe-Mn oxide fraction during the wet season, with mean concentrations (mg/kg) of 6. 22 ± 1. 33 and 8. 24 ± 0. 78, for dumpsites A and B, respectively. The values obtained for these metals were higher during the dry season than a wet season and there were no metals in the mobile fractions for wet season. However, cadmium and lead were found in the carbonate fraction during the dry season, resulting in their bioavailability in the soils. CONCLUSION: The speciation results revealed that heavy metals were more bioavailable in the residual fractions. The absence of mobile fractions in the soils indicated that metals are not bioavailable for plants uptake at present condition; hence, the metals obtained are of geogenic rather than anthropogenic origin.
