MULTICOMPONENT REACTIONS (MCRS), AN IMPORTANT SUBCLASS OF TANDEM REACTIONS, ARE ONE-POT PROCESSES IN WHICH THREE OR MORE EASILY ACCESSIBLE COMPONENTS REACT TO FORM A SINGLE PRODUCT, WHICH INCORPORATES ESSENTIALLY ALL OF THE ATOMS OF THE STARTING MATERIALS. MCRS ARE HIGHLY FLEXIBLE, (CHEMO) SELECTIVE, CONVERGENT, AND ATOM-EFFICIENT PROCESSES OF HIGHEXPLORATORY POWER. WE DESCRIBE AN EFFICIENT, Three-component, AS PART OF CURRENT STUDIES, WE DESCRIBERESULTS OF OUR STUDIES INVOLVING AN EFFICIENT, THREECOMPONENT AND ONE-POT REACTION OF ISATOIC ANHYDRIDE AND NUCLEOPHILES SUCH AS ALCOHOLS AND THIOLS IN THE PRECENCE OF PHENACYL BROMIDES TO PRODUCE THE NEW CARBOXYLIC ACID DERIVATIVES. THE PRODUCTS WERE CHARACTERIZED ON THE BASIS OF THEIR ELEMENTAL ANALYSES AND THEIR IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR AND MASS SPECTRA.
