Abstract: 

In this paper we tried to depict the effect of computer-mediated communication on attitude change in intercultural interpersonal communications. The researchers arranged 20 VIRTUAL INFORMAL DEEP INTERVIEWs with non-Iranian INTERVIEWees who have been in contact with the researchers via the internet during the last 10 years. Despite the fact that their perceptions about Iranians years ago were very schematic in the first encounters with the researchers, the researchers recognized these attitudes had changed gradually during these years. Observing such a change in the daily communications, the researchers decided to share this ethno-methodological knowledge with their intellectual colleagues; so this paper started to be written systematically. First, in reference to Arbib, Conklin, and Hill, the researcher tried to discover the mechanisms of schema formation about Iranians in the minds of these INTERVIEWees. The researchers also classified the schematic perceptions- what Wood defines as Personal Constructs, Prototypes, Stereotypes, and Scripts- about Iranians. Second, an attempt was made to find out why these INTERVIEWees, with those pre-maintained negative attitudes about Iranians, became interested to interact with an Iranian on the internet. Next, they have been asked about their mental experiences of facing an Iranian, whose characteristics are in contrast to the prejudice they had maintained about Iranians. Finally, Affective-Cognitive Consistency Theory was used by Rosenberg and Abelson to explain how those stereotypical and prejudicial attitudes about Iranians have changed in the context of emotional give-and-takes in friendships.

John I. Liontas, Ph.D., is an associate professor of foreign languages, English for speakers of other languages (ESOL), and technology in education and second language acquisition (TESLA), and director and faculty of the TESLA doctoral program at the University of South Florida. He has over 30 years of K-20+teaching experience and research in the United States and other countries, has held several academic faculty and administrative positions in higher education, and has taught a wide range of language and academic content courses. He has also directed, coordinated, and administered language and academic programs at various US institutions and sits on several local, state, regional, national, and international academic bodies as director, managing editor, chair, reviewer, evaluator, or appointed/elected member. He is an active member of several (inter) national learned societies and has participated as PI and Co-PI on several multimillion dollar funded projects.

DEEP-sea vessels use various navigational aids like AIS (automatic identification system), ECDIS (electronic chart display and information system), radar, GPS (global positioning system), and etc. vessels use AIS to communicate their navigational characteristics, destinations, and load information. Such data are very helpful for vessel officers; therefore, AIS can be used for communicating the name and position of the vessel as well as navigational signs in the port area. So, this system is very helpful in improving the quality of pilotage as well as improving the safety of navigation in canals like Khur Musa.

Susan Gass is University Distinguished Professor in the Department of Linguistics and Germanic, Slavic, Asian and African Languages at Michigan State University. Her research is in Second Language Acquisition and includes the areas of Input and Interaction, Language Universals and Language Transfer. More recently she has become interested in the area of attention and how it relates to acquisition. She has written/edited a number of books on second language acquisition and has taught and lectured in various parts of the world. Currently at MSU, she is the Director of the English Language Center, Co-Director of the Center for Language Education And Research, Co-Director of the Center for Language Teaching Advancement and Director of the Second Language Studies Ph.D. Program. She recently served as President of the International Association of Applied Linguistics (2002-2008). In the following INTERVIEW, Susan Gass (SG) answers questions asked by Karim Sadeghi (KS) on her role as co-editor of SSLA.

Prof. Alison Wray has a BA and D.Phil in linguistics from the University of York and had a 3 year postdoctoral in the Music Department of the same university. After working as a linguistics lecturer at what is now York St John University in York, she became Assistant Director of the Wales Applied Language Research Unit, Swansea University. In 1999 she was made a senior research fellow at Cardiff University, and subsequently a Reader, Professor and Research Professor. She been Director of Research for the School's of English Communication and Philosophy since 2004. What follows is an INTERVIEW with Alison Wray (AW) conducted by Karim Sadeghi (KS).

Simon Borg first taught English as a foreign language in 1988, in Malta, then graduated from the University of Malta in 1990 and started teaching English in a state secondary school, also in Malta. He did my MA at the College of St Mark & St John (UK) in 1991 and taught for a few more years in Malta after that, starting a PhD at the University of Exeter in 1994. He spent two years in New Zealand from 1996, teaching, teacher training and finishing the PhD, and in 1998 he joined the University of Leeds. He left Leeds as a Professor of TESOL in 2014 to become a full-time consultant and remain a Visiting Professorthere. He is also a ‘Professor II’ at University College Bergen. His PhD was about teacher cognition in L2 grammar teaching and the study of teachers’ beliefs and knowledge. He also specializes in teacher education and professional development, teacher research, and research methods. What comes below is an INTERVIEW with Professor Simon Borg on his academic achievements and issues related to teacher education conducted by the editor of IJLTR. Abstract: 

واقعیت مجازی، نوعی فناوری برای ایجاد تعامل بین انسان و رایانه است که توسط آن داده های پیچیده تبدیل به تصویر، صوت و عوامل تحریک حواس شخص می شود تا حضور واقعی در محیط مجازی به او القا شود. یکی از مزایای واقعیت مجازی، بهره گیری از آن به عنوان یک ابزار جدید در حوزه هنر معماری، برای شبیه سازی بنا قبل از ساخت است. بدین ترتیب، می توان از لحاظ بصری و طراحی هنری، تناسب به کار رفته در طراحی پروژه را بررسی نموده و از خطاهای احتمالی در حین طراحی جلوگیری نمود. در پژوهش حاضر، به بیان اهمیت همگام سازی طراحی معماری با تکنولوژی های جدید و کارآمدی مانند فناوری واقعیت مجازی پرداخته شده است. با توجه به نوظهور بودن این فناوری در ایران، شناخت قابلیت ها و کاربردهای آن در زمینه هایی هم چون معماری، که کم تر مورد بحث و بررسی قرار گرفته است، ضروری است. اطلاعات مورد استفاده به منظور شناخت فناوری واقعیت مجازی و نحوه استفاده از آن در طراحی معماری، از طریق مطالعات کتابخانه ای و نیز تجزیه و تحلیل منابع خارجی مرتبط، گردآوری شده است. شناخت قابلیت ها و ﮐﺎرﺑﺮدﻫﺎی واﻗﻌﯿﺖﻣﺠﺎزی، و به دنبال آن به کارگیری گسترده این تکنولوژی، ﻣﯽ ﺗﻮاند انقلابی در معماری و طراحی به وجود آورد و داﻣﻨﻪ اﺳﺘﻔﺎده از آن را در اﯾﺮان ﮔﺴﺘﺮش دهد. استفاده از این فناوری توسط معماران، تنها راه شناسایی پتانسیل ها و کمبودهای آن در حوزه معماری و به ویژه طراحی داخلی است. بنابراین، مداخله معماران در بهبود و تکامل این تکنولوژی ضروری است و این امر، تنها با شناساندن و معرفی واقعیت مجازی به طور گسترده در جامعه مهندسی حاصل خواهد شد.

Abstract: 

Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks are among the primary concerns in internet security today. Machine learning can be exploited to detect such attacks. In this paper, a multi-layer perceptron model is proposed and implemented using DEEP machine learning to distinguish between malicious and normal traffic based on their behavioral patterns. The proposed model is trained and tested using the CICDDoS2019 dataset. To remove irrelevant and redundant data from the dataset and increase learning accuracy, feature selection is used to select and extract the most effective features that allow us to detect these attacks. Moreover, we use the grid search algorithm to acquire optimum values of the model’s hyperparameters among the parameters’ space. In addition, the sensitivity of accuracy of the model to variations of an input parameter is analyzed. Finally, the effectiveness of the presented model is validated in comparison with some state-of-the-art works.

Abstract: 

The paper covers an INTERVIEW with Professor Themba Andrew Dube that captures his academic career that spans ordered algebraic structures, frames (locales), category theory, and pointfree function rings. The dialogue between the author and Dube features some of the work of Dube's doctoral students that influenced his research direction. The collaborative work of Dube and his relationships with prominent local and international scholars is exchanged in the conversation. We also narrate Dube's academic citizenry in Quaestiones Mathematicae, the journal of the South African Mathematical Society, whilst he was Editor-in-Chief. The paper gives a valuable historical account of Dube's contribution to the South African mathematical landscape and the African mathematical diaspora.

Abstract: 

Many roads in forest areas are located along the steep hills. The cut and fill method is currently used for construction of these roads. Settlement or consolidation in not enough compacted soil or creep in down slope, can lead to subsidence and cracks in roads. General methods for solving settlement related problems such as reconstruction, retaining structure and … are expensive. DEEP patch method is a low- cost method for increasing the stability of slopes. In this method, the upper parts of the subsided area are excavated and replaced with reinforcement materials such as Geo grid in accordance with compacted soil. In this paper, limit equilibrium method has been implemented for determining the safety factor of a planar slip surface in a slope. Furthermore, graphs for determining safety factor of reinforced soil slope with Geo synthetics have been proposed.
