Abstract:

Recent studies have shown that the variable sampling interval (VSI) scheme helps practitioners detect process shifts more quickly than the classical scheme (FRS). In this paper, the economically and statistically optimal design of the VSIT2 control chart for monitoring the process mean vector is investigated. The cost model proposed by Lorenzen and Vance (1986) is minimized through a genetic algorithm (GA) approach. Then the effects of the costs and operating parameters on the optimal design (OD) of the chart parameters and resulting operating loss through a fractional factorial design is systematically studied and finally, based on the ANOVA results, a Meta model to facilitate implementation in industry is proposed to determine the OD of the VSIT2 control chart parameters from the process and cost parameters.

Abstract:

In this article, a new censoring scheme is considered, namely, a middle part of a random sample is censored. A treatment for reconstructing the missing order statistics is investigated. The proposed procedure is studied in detail under exponential distribution which is widely used as a constant failure model in reliability.Different approaches are used to obtain point and interval reconstructors and then they are compared. A numerical example is presented for illustrating all the proposed inferential procedures. Eventually, we present some remarks including how the results of the paper can be used when the parameters of the exponential distribution are unknown.

Abstract:

In this paper we consider estimation of the derivative of a density based on wavelets methods using randomly right censored data. We extend the results regarding the asymptotic convergence rates due to Prakasa Rao (1996) and Chaubeyet al. (2008) under random censorship model. Our treatment is facilitated by results of Stute (1995) and Li (2003) that enable us in demonstrating that the same convergence rates are achieved as in Prakasa Rao (1996) and Chaubeyet al. (2008).

Abstract:

In this paper we propose an estimator of the entropy of a continuous random variable. The estimator is obtained by modifying the estimator proposed by Vasicek (1976). Consistency of estimator is proved, and comparisons are made with Vasicek’s estimator (1976), van Es’s estimator (1992), Ebrahimi et al.’s estimator (1994) and Correa’s estimator (1995). The results indicate that the proposed estimator has smaller mean squared error than above estimators.

Abstract:

In this paper we study some monotone behavior of the residual (past) entropy of order . We prove that, under some relation between the hazard rates (reversed hazard rates) of two distributions functions F and G, when the residual (past) entropy of order a of F is decreasing (increasing) then the residual (past) entropy of G is decreasing (increasing). Using this, several conclusions regarding monotone behavior of residual (past) entropy of order a of (n-k+1) -out-of-n systems and record values are derived. Some results on the residual (past) entropy of order of equilibrium distributions are also obtained.
