The purpose of this paper is to review the role of Abadan Ports as well as other factors and variables affecting the non-oil exports of Khuzestan Province during the past 15 years based on seasonal series (60 series) from March 1995 to February 2010. Tonnage of non-oil exports of Abadan Ports is the dependent variable and factors like exchange rates, inflation, GDP, and government oil revenues are independent variables. In this paper, documentary research method is used to collect data. Regarding the cause and effect relationship of the variables, data are analyzed by regression analysis and using the time series data. To ensure the reliability and cointegration of variables, the ARDL approach and error-correction method is used. Soft wares that are used in this study include Microfit and EViews.The results of this study indicate that higher exchange rate, lower inflation, and lower oil revenue have a direct (positive) effect on non-oil exports both in short-term and long-term; but GDP has a direct (positive) and significant effect in short-term and no statistically significant effect in long-term.

Present study suggests a model for reward system in Imam Khomeini Ports and Maritime Administration. In this study, reward system is a system that attracts, retains, and motivates the effective people and also creates an efficient payment structure which is based on equality from mental standpoint and its appearance is competitiveness. Rewards have apparent and symbolic concepts. Rewards are in form of salaries, privileges, benefits, and prizes. Reward systems are one of the important tools that managers can use them to direct and motivate the personnel. Human resources are one of the most important and powerful tools of Imam Khomeini Ports and Maritime Administration to achieve competitive advantage because achieving such a goal is in direct relation to the efficiency effectiveness of personnel. Therefore, it is very important for managers to consider the needs and motivations of the personnel. Since the reward system is a good way to motivate the personnel, this study tries to provide a model for reward system of Imam Khomeini Ports and Maritime Administration and then mechanizing it via assessing the effect of such a system on the efficiency and effectiveness of the personnel.

Imam Khomeini SEZ - as the largest and the most important trade port in the field of import and export of grains- includes five deputy departments which are department of administrative and financial, department of research and development, department of technical affairs and maintenance, and department of port and marine civil engineering. This port also has a management. Due to its privileged geographical and economical position, Imam Khomeini port is one of the most important hinterlands of Iran which covers more than 70% of commercial, industrial, agricultural, and demographic centers. Neighborhood of this port with major industries of Iran has added to its importance.This study began in March 2009 and ended in August 2010. During this 18-month period of study, more than 42 units were visited and necessary data were obtained. In order to achieve its desired objective, this paper tries to identify the source of the waste production, production amount, production factors, the nature of the waste, and waste management. In Imam Khomeini Port, 68 activities were lead to waste production from which 25.6% were lead to the production of semi-household solid waste, 22% were lead to the production of industrial solid waste, and 51.5% were lead to the production of both of them. Solid waste production of this port complex amounts to 5897277 Kg annually, from which 50% relates to depot, 37% is from the sites, 12% is produced in restaurants and vessels, 1% is resulted from worn rubbers, and a little amount relates to infectious and recyclable wastes. This article tries to provide scientific approaches and methods to minimizing the solid waste and managing them in Imam Khomeini Port Complex.

Deep-sea vessels use various navigational aids like AIS (automatic identification system), ECDIS (electronic chart display and information system), radar, GPS (global positioning system), and etc. vessels use AIS to communicate their navigational characteristics, destinations, and load information. Such data are very helpful for vessel officers; therefore, AIS can be used for communicating the name and position of the vessel as well as navigational signs in the port area. So, this system is very helpful in improving the quality of pilotage as well as improving the safety of navigation in canals like Khur Musa.

One of the most important parts of the vessels is its diesel engines. These engines are in charge of various operations like generating electricity power, propulsion power, fire pumps, and etc. Therefore, due to the unnecessary expenses may result from choosing the wrong engine, engine selection is of a great importance and this paper tries to assess the important and effective factors in choosing the right engines.The engine selection procedure is presented under the following headings:Fuel consumption and engine oilThe volume occupied by the engineEngine RepairsThe rapid reaction of the engine in the case of increasing the pitch or in moving back in direct drive vesselsBeing consistent with international maritime laws and conventionsThe ability to work with an alternative fuel in deep-sea vesselsBeing user friendly and the ability to easy and simple repairs of enginesThe amount of engine vibration and noise resulting from itOther important factors.
