Imam Khomeini SEZ - as the largest and the most important trade port in the field of import and export of grains- includes five deputy departments which are department of administrative and financial, department of research and development, department of technical affairs and maintenance, and department of port and marine civil engineering. This port also has a management. Due to its privileged geographical and economical position, Imam Khomeini port is one of the most important hinterlands of Iran which covers more than 70% of commercial, industrial, agricultural, and demographic centers. Neighborhood of this port with major industries of Iran has added to its importance.This study began in March 2009 and ended in August 2010. During this 18-month period of study, more than 42 units were visited and necessary data were obtained. In order to achieve its desired objective, this paper tries to identify the source of the waste production, production amount, production factors, the nature of the waste, and waste management. In Imam Khomeini Port, 68 activities were lead to waste production from which 25.6% were lead to the production of semi-household solid waste, 22% were lead to the production of industrial solid waste, and 51.5% were lead to the production of both of them. Solid waste production of this port complex amounts to 5897277 Kg annually, from which 50% relates to depot, 37% is from the sites, 12% is produced in restaurants and vessels, 1% is resulted from worn rubbers, and a little amount relates to infectious and recyclable wastes. This article tries to provide scientific approaches and methods to minimizing the solid waste and managing them in Imam Khomeini Port Complex.
