Abstract:

The present article is the outcome of a library research made in order to promote the quality of the rewritten texts drawn from epic works with emphasis on the cognitive, emotional, and social development parameters for the child and adolescent. The first step towards achieving this aim is to present the theoretical basis of rewriting the epic works in child and adolescent literature and then the brief history of the rewritten works as far as national interests is concerned with particular emphasis on Shahnameh is investigated. Next the characteristics of the child’ s development in different ages are classified and based on that information the general and specialized regulations for rewriting the ancient epic works are evaluated. Based on this analysis, the ideal parameters for choosing a story and rewriting epic works compatible with mental capacities and different cognitive abilities addressed at child and young adult in different ages are suggested and summed up. Finally, to show the matter in practice examples of these ideal parameters in comparison with their inefficient adaptations of Shahnameh stories are provided. The present research is a scientific method for presenting ideal parameters for story selection in other literary genres too.

Abstract:

The tale of Rostam and Esfandyar is one of the most fascinating stories in Shahnameh which has had wide reflection among the populace. Ever since its creation this tragedy has been very popular in different regions of Iran and has undergone changes and been distorted at times. The ancient region of Kouhmareh Sorkhi is one region where this tale is very popular since antiquity. Like most other narratives this tale is not remembered by the people of this locality and only is told by the eldest and the most renowned naqqal of this area, Ali Hossein Allinejad, the last of the naqqals and narrators of the region. The naqqali narrative of this tale in this area is an amalgam of epic, popular and mythological beliefs of the natives of the region. The studies made by the writer of this article on the present epic narratives in the area and specifically the recent narrative shows that narrators and naqqals have tried to make these narratives more acceptable among the community by incorporating mythological ethnic elements and beliefs among people and thus preserve them in memories. This inspection not only shows part of mythological beliefs of this community but also records narratives not previously studied nor recorded in references. The findings of this research are presented under the following sections: 1-Birth of Esfandyar 2-Fertility myth 3-Martyred gods 4-belief in genies

Abstract:

Since mythological criticism is related to many disciplines such as Anthropology, History of civilization Studies, Theology, Jungian Psychology and Archetypal Studies, it is counted as an interdisciplinary approach. A critic in this genre of criticism studies and analyzes all the archetypal signs present in the text which had influenced the creation of literary works whether consciously or unconsciously. Paying attention to the application of this approach in recognizing the unconscious values of the text and analysis of its symbolic levels it seems that texts containing mythological references are more prone to this genre of criticism. The novel Paribad written by Mohammad Ali Olomi is one such example. This novel is filled with mythological themes whose author consciously or unconsciously was concerned about. The purpose of this article is to study the important myths of this novel such as fairy, and wind and compare them with their counterparts in Shahnameh using analytic approach. The studies made indicates that these concepts were mentioned in Shahnameh regarded as pre-text and the author of the novel tries to reintroduce these myths in his work.

Abstract:

Archetypes have roots in the first experiences of man and for this reason are placed in man’ s individual and collected unconscious. Whether overtly or covertly in all aspects of man’ s life especially in epic literature where it reflects the unconscious, archetypes manifest themselves. Based on this fact, the subject of this research is to cast a glance at the character of Kush, the tusked emphasizing the Jungian archetypes of wise old man and rebirth. Jung had regarded certain features for these two archetypes which one finds their reflection in Kush’ s life. The most important outcomes of this present research made by descriptive analytic method, show that in accordance with Jung’ s ideas with the appearance of wise old man, the main character of the story that is Kush, the tusked undergoes wide spiritual transformation and under the influence of his guidelines and his illuminations Kush turns into an ethical person devoted to spiritual affairs as if reborn to experience a totally new life. Although he had an anti-hero character at first, however under the influence of a wise mentor’ s guidance he had overcome his internal darkness and had turned into a king and a popular hero. According to the features mentioned for the two archetypes in the story, the stages of Kush’ s life falls into three parts: before transformation, in preparation for the transformation, and rebirth of a new character.

Abstract:

Tale of Rostam and Esfandyar is an indicator of the inner conflict within the formal power structure and represents the manner in which resistance takes shape against the dominant power discourse. This conflict and involvement in the tale are posed by narrative, dialogue, conversational schemes and sometimes is presented in terms of certain rhetorical structures. This article deals with the study and analysis of conversation and dialogue as part of critical discourse analysis and further makes use of certain applied linguistic parameters in order to analyze the dialogue between two main characters of the tale that is Rostam and Esfandyar. This study shows that power relations in Iran’ s court and political institutions enriches the language and the structure of the tale of Rostam and Esfandyar with ideological sense and rhetorical power discourse is seen to cast a shadow over the tale. Esfandyar is the representative of religious and political power and Rostam is the representative of national and heroic power who against his inmost wishes gets involved with an involuntary duel with Esfandyar. Power discourse causes language to function in a particular context and to create a specific rhetorical approach in a way that when this passes through the filter of Ferdowsi’ s mind, new discourse system with a new identity is formed.
