Google Scholar has recently attracted great attentions as an open access multidisciplinary citation database, and a tool for retrieving scientific works for scientometricians and researchers. The present research intended to highlight the limitations brought about by efficiency policies of the search engine and its impact on the results available to users. To do so, it examined the accessibility of the retrieval results, through conducting 54 searches in this database. The results showed that the estimation of the results on the top of the first page returned by Google Scholar did not match that of the accessible results. Therefore, these statistics could not be accounted for to precisely determine the number of documents on a topic. Moreover, the results showed that although the subjects selected for the searches were very specific, the number of results for each search was very wide and exceeded the upper limit of 1, 000 records authorized in Google Scholar for display. By limiting the searches to the title field, the number of the results was dramatically reduced. Since title is one of the most important representations of document contents in scientific and technical fields, this strategy can increase the precision of the results and thus the effectiveness of the retrievals. The investigation of the accessibility of the search results for the title field also showed that some documents, though scarce in number, were still inaccessible despite the fact that they were within the 1000-record limits. In addition, in title field search, some rare cases of duplicate records, incompatibilities between queries and documents were observed regarding the language of the documents and exact phrase search. The lack of automatic truncation in field searches was one of the most important issues necessitating the use of sophisticated search strategies.

Query expansion is a method for improving retrieval performance by supplementing an original query with additional terms. This process improves the quality of search engine results and helps users to find the required information. In the recent years, different methods have been proposed in this area. In addition to such a variety of different approaches in this area and necessity of the study of their characteristics, the lack of a comprehensive classification based on candidate expansion terms extraction methods and also suitable and complete criteria to evaluate them, make the precise study, comparison and evaluation of methods for query expansion and choosing appropriate method based on need difficult for researchers. Therefore, in this paper a new useful framework is presented. In the proposed framework, in addition to the identification of three basic approaches based on the candidate expansion terms extraction methods for query expansion and expressing their properties, appropriate criteria for qualitative evaluation of these methods will be described. Next, the proposed approaches will be evaluated qualitatively based on these criteria. Using the systematic and structured framework proposed in this paper leads a useful platform for researchers to be provided for the comparative study of existing methods in the field, investigating their features specially their drawbacks to improve them and choosing appropriate method based on their needs.

The current paper aimed to explore how image indexing and annotating could improve image retrieval via site operator command. Also was among the goals of the study to compare the effectiveness of different codes assigned to sample images in retrieval ranks of images by Google search engine. Using quasi-experimental method 100 images were selected, each image was uploaded 9 times by conceptbased characteristics on site iiproject. ir. Analysis consists of images which retrieved from the site operator command. Number of images retrieved by the site operator command is 151 images of total 900 that are used in the study. The minimum number of retrieved images is related to “ image titles” and the maximum to the criteria images which entitled with Q code. Chi-square statistics showed that the number of images retrieved in various codes was different. The best ranking is related to “ image title” and the weakest to “ image caption in Farsi” . Images average ranking retrieved in 9 groups were different. Findings reflect problems and issues of image indexing and retrieval and put forward some ways to overcome the challenges identified. Some lacks in image retrieval by Google search engine at website level are identified. Different codes and descriptors show different retrieval ranks and results considerable for designers, indexers and even users.

The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between traditional citation indexes representing hot papers in the field of “ Clinical Medicine” and their bookmarking and readership in “ Mendeley software” . The citation counts of hot papers were extracted from Essential Science Indicators (ESI) and Web of Science (WoS). As an applied research adopting a descriptive-exploratory method, the present study used the Essential Science Indicators to retrieve hot articles published between 2014 and 2016, indexed in the category “ Medical Sciences” . Each record was then searched in Mendeley to obtain the number of readership of the paper and the academic status of the users. The results showed a significant positive correlation between Mendeley readership and citation indexes in both ESI and WoS. Moreover, the most frequently-cited articles in both databases attracted more readers in Mendeley than lowly-cited publications and both hypotheses were confirmed. Moreover, the findings revealed that Mendeley users had assigned a total number of 3847 tags to the hot papers, with the tags ranging in frequency from zero to 38 for individual articles. Compared with author keywords and Plus, about 10 percent of users’ tags were either meaningless or repetitive. The value of present study shows that “ Mendeley Sofware” with the possibility of tagging articles, can be used to create a searchable folksonomy of information and as a source of data in information retrieval studies, help professionals to manage their literatures and make their research life easier.

The purpose of this research is to analyze and map the production of the Quranic sciences field at the international level indexed in the WoS database during the period 2000 to 2017 using the VOSviewer software to illustrate the results. Descriptive-analytical method used to achieve the research purpose. The research population is comprised of all documents regarding the Qur'anic studies indexed in the citation index of science and social sciences accessible through WOS. The results showed that most researches topics during 2000-2017 focused on Islam religion which was the main area of research. Regarding highly productive writers, Duderija and Behn each authored 9 documents and Burman placed in the next position. Zadeh, Rippin and Shoemaker have the highest number of co-authorship with 67, 62 and 42 documents, respectively. Also, there are 75 countries in the field of Qur'anic studies in the form of articles in which The United States, Turkey, Malaysia and Iran, with 313, 145, 129 and 114 articles, are the most productive countries in this field. Considering higher Education Institutes, Malaysia International Islamic University, Islamic Azad University, university Malaya and Tehran University with the production of 39, 38, 36 and 14 articles about Quran, respectively, are the most productive.

The Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB) is a discovery service for open access e-books. It provides a searchable index to peer-reviewed e-books published under an open access business model. The present study aims to assess the scientometric trends of the open access e-books in the field of the Health Sciences available through the Directory of Open Access Books. In order to fulfil the set objectives, the relevant details of the Health Sciences e-books were collected. The results reveal that 916 e-books are available in the field of the Health Sciences through the Directory of Open Access. The highest number of e-books is contributed in General Medicine (40. 61%, 372) and in the English language (83. 84%, 768). These e-books also contain current information as the majority (88. 32%, 809) of these are published from 2011 onwards by the reputed publishers like Frontiers Media, SciELO, Springer, Palgrave Macmillan, and Oxford University Press etc. The Directory of Open Access Books was selected as a source for data collection whereas the Health Sciences was selected as the field of study. Therefore, the finding can’ t be generalised across directories and subjects.

Study analyses scientometric assessment of LIS research performance of OPEC member countries. The research publication data indexed in Scopus for the OPEC member countries were extracted and used for the analysis. The data are analyzed to identify quantitative research performance of OPEC member countries in terms of total documents, citable documents, and non-citable documents. The citation impact is measured by different parameters, like total citations, citations per document, Relative Citation Impact, self-citations, and self-citations per document. Finally, the quality of the document is assessed by means of h-index. Nigeria has been found to be most productive country in LIS research and Iran is receiving highest citations and also in h-index performance amongst OPEC member countries. Iraq, Libya, and Ecuador are far away in LIS research productivity and needs strong steps to improve LIS research productivity for future endeavor.

This paper describes the framework used in a study to formulate the requirements for the design and implementation of a knowledge sharing for project-based education. Green Open Access Information is popular among researchers to access information in sharing their knowledge. The purpose of Green Open Access Information is to make the full text of the peer-reviewed research output of scholars/scientists and their institutions visible, accessible, harvestable, searchable and useable by any potential user to access the information from the Internet. Knowledge sharing is widely recognized that it can promote the competitive ability of scholars and it has been the focus of research for this century. Recently, there has been a growing interest in examining the factors that participation of OAI or knowledge sharing. The OAI has been conceived to support scholars sharing needs in making research projects. The study uses the Framework for knowledge sharing for the approach to investigate the initial requirements. The artifact addressed in the framework-readiness-is highlighted in this paper. Readiness in this work refers to major goal within objective or approaches that are significant to the OAI. This includes the readiness to participate the OAI, willingness to participate in making research articles available on the internet, and the success factors. Using multiple data-gathering techniques, the study identifies the readiness factors that support the plan for participation of the OAI. It outlines the vision statement, goals and objectives needed to define the make research articles available on the internet by the Scholars; the context to participate the OAI by the Knowledge Sharing Community; and the knowledge sharing expressed by the participation of OAI.

Nowadays, it is essential that researchers operationalize their research evidence with the help of knowledge brokers in proper communication with stakeholders and make such pieces of evidence applicable. The present study aims at psychometric of the self-assessment tool of academic researchers' knowledge translation activities and explaining the role of academic librarians in this process. This study was a methodology research. A questionnaire was designed and its psychometric properties including design, face validity and content validity, and internal and external reliability of the construct were measured. During the first and second stages of the research, the initial version of the questionnaire with 52 items was designed. During the third and fourth stages, the self-assessment section of knowledge translation activities was developed as the main structure of the questionnaire in four components, namely research question, knowledge creation, knowledge transfer, and promotion of using evidence. In the following, the psychometric analysis of the final version of the questionnaire (with 46 items) was approved for all the items with the impact score of 4. 48, content validity index of 0. 92, content validity ratio of 0. 85, Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0. 91, and correlation coefficient of 0. 93. The results of this study indicated that the developed questionnaire enjoys proper psychometric properties for the selfassessment of knowledge translation activities of academic researchers by considering the role of librarians in facilitating this process.

his study aimed at evaluating the feasibility of identification, extraction, organization and sharing of personal knowledge of Kerman public librarians. This study was a qualitative one based on grounded theory. The research population consisted of all knowledge and information science experts in public libraries in Kerman and snowball sampling was used to select participants. In-depth interview was the data collection tool in this study. In order to ensure the validity and reliability of this research, Lincoln and Guba's evaluative criteria was adopted and data collected from the interview, were coded and analyzed. Personal knowledge is shared through group discussions, question and answer meetings with experts and elites or even sending an email to co-workers. Knowledge and information science experts in public libraries in Kerman have no definite tool to be always used by all for identifying of personal knowledge. The method of extraction of personal knowledge mostly depends upon the manner of organization of personal knowledge. Knowledge and information science experts’ success in personal knowledge management depends on letting out the knowledge available in their minds. In this regard, knowledge sharing which includes the dissemination or transfer of knowledge from one individual to a group or an organization is the fundamental factor for achieving goals and filling knowledge gaps in organizations. Therefore, it is the task of public libraries to promote the culture of personal knowledge sharing, create an encouraging and rewarding environment and establish trust among knowledge and information science experts at work.

This study aimed to assess the paths through which save metrics (on CiteULike, Mendeley, and Figshare) and discussion metrics (on Twitter, Facebook, and Wikipedia) influence citation. This descriptive-correlation study investigates the relationships between different variables based on its proposed conceptual model. Systematic and stratified sampling was employed and, using the Cochrane formula, the sample size was determined to be 1892 articles. Data were collected using the PLOS altmetrics, and path analysis was administered to test the conceptual model by using AMOS software. The results convey that Mendeley was the most effective path resulting to citation. Mendeley has a positive and significant relationship with citation via save as an intermediator. Twitter also had a negative and significant relationship with citation via discussion as an intermediating factor. Yet, neither save metrics on CiteULike and Figshare nor discussion on Facebook and Wikipedia does create a path of influence on citation. Identifying the effective paths through which social networks affect citation via altmetrics and presenting a final model of those paths could enrich and expand the theoretical foundations in the field of altmetrics. Besides identifying the most effective social networks and paths for online scientific interactions that lead to citation, the implications of this research can provide deeper insights for policy makers, editors and scholars.
