Abstract:

Background: Considering the daily use of the Internet and its major role in the lives of students and the fact that students use the Internet more to achieve their scientific goals, its uncontrolled use has caused a new phenomenon called Internet addiction. The present study was performed with the aim of determining the prevalence of Internet addiction and its related factors in the students of Isfahan University of Medical Sciences, Iran, during 2019-2020. Methods: This descriptive-analytical study was performed on 384 students of Isfahan University of Medical Sciences. Samples were selected using stratified random sampling and proportional to the volume of students in each school. Data were collected using Young's Internet Addiction Test (IAT). Questionnaires were sent online to the delegates and scoring was done based on the Likert scale. Data were analyzed using chi-square test and Pearson correlation coefficient via SPSS software. Findings: 66. 7% of participants were girls and 81. 0% of them were single. 27. 4% of subjects were exposed to Internet addiction and only 1% of subjects were severely addicted. There was a significant relationship between the school and place of residence with the Internet addiction of subjects (P < 0. 05), so that Internet addiction was more common among students of medical and health schools as well as among students living in dormitories. Conclusion: Due to the fact that Internet addiction is more common among students living in dormitories and some schools, the authorities are expected to hold educational programs for the proper use of the Internet in the future, and provide the students with more entertainment programs and facilities to avoid wasting their time.

Abstract:

Background: Considering the global prevalence of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and the high rate of mortality due to the disease, it seems that performing COVID-19 preventive behaviors is a suitable solution to reduce the damage caused by the disease. Since office employees are at the high risk of morbidity, this study was conducted to investigate the effect of educational intervention based on protection motivation theory (PMT) on the promotion of COVID-19 preventive behaviors in the office employees in Bajestan City, Razavi Khorasan Province, Iran. Methods: This study was a randomized controlled trial with a control group. 164 employees working in governmental offices in Bajestan were selected using multi-stage random sampling and randomly divided into experimental and control groups. The designed educational program based on the PMT was conducted for the experimental group for one month, and the measurements were taken in three stages of pre-test, post-test, and follow-up using a questionnaire designed to predict COVID-19 preventive behaviors based on PMT. Data were analyzed using repeated measures analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). Findings: The mean age was 38. 21 ±,6. 44 years in the experimental group and 36. 73 ±,5. 18 years in the control group. The majority of subjects in the experimental group (65, 79. 3%) and in the control group (58, 70. 7%) were men. The results of repeated measures ANCOVA indicated that there was a statistically significant difference between two groups in terms of all constructs of PMT (P < 0. 05) after adjusting the effect of pre-test scores. But significance of correlation between time and educational group in all constructs except self-efficacy suggested that the effect of educational intervention on these constructs varied over time. Conclusion: The results of this study support the effectiveness of educational intervention in changing attitudes and behaviors related to COVID-19 prevention based on PMT.

Abstract:

Background: Most people who suffer from chronic pain are exposed to major physical and mental problems and general health disorders throughout their lives. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment group therapy (ACT) based on pain in patients with chronic low back pain. Methods: This study was a clinical trial and statistical population included 116 patients with chronic low back pain who referred to pain clinic. The McGill Pain Questionnaire (MPQ) was used for data collection with the aim of assessing people's perception of different dimensions (sensory perception of pain, emotional perception of pain, perception of pain assessment, and various pains). 28 out of 116 patients who had the inclusion citeria were selected and randomly divided into a test group and a control group, each with 14 members. Intervention based on ACT was done on test group for eight 1. 5-hour sessions. Finally, data were analyzed using quantitative and qualitative tests for descriptive variables and Mann-Whitney test, chi-squared test, Fisher’, s exact test, and Wilcoxon test with significant level of P < 0. 05. Findings: A high percentage of both groups were women with average age of 40. 80 ±,25. 10. There was not any significant statistical difference between two groups in terms of pain score and its various dimensions before the intervention. The results of pain score in terms of sensory perception, pain assessment perception, and in general, before and after the intervention in the test group (P = 0. 039) and the overall score between the two groups (P = 0. 035) were statistically significant. However, there were not any significant statistical changes in pain score and its different dimensions before, after, and three months after intervention in experimental group. Conclusion: It seems that ACT has been able to affect sensory perception, pain assessment, and total score, and it may represent new horizons in clinical treatment and can be used as an effective intervention method.
