Abstract:

Introduction: Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is one of the most common surgical methods in patients with coronary artery disease, a well-known complication of which is renal injury after surgery. Here we try to understand the factors involved in the incidence of acute renal injury in our patients. Objective: The present study aimed to evaluate the incidence and etiology of acute kidney injury (AKI) following CABG. Methods: This study was performed on 181 patients undergoing CABG surgery. The AKI was also recorded after registering demographic information and clinical indications. Chi-square, Mann-Whitney, and independent t-tests were used for data comparison. Results: The findings of our study pointed out that AKI following CABG in our patients was 3. 9% and showed no significant relationship with age, gender, hypertension, diabetes, type of surgery, hypercholesterolemia, number of clogged arteries, smoking, and length of surgery, however, blood urea was found to be significantly higher preoperatively in patients with AKI. Conclusion: As evidenced by the obtained results, AKI following CABG in the studied patients was 3. 9% and was not significantly associated with age, gender, hypertension, diabetes, type of surgery, hypercholesterolemia, number of clogged vessels, smoking, and the length of surgery. Nonetheless, urea was observed to be significantly higher in patients with AKI before surgery. Studies with larger sample sizes are recommended.

Abstract:

Introduction: Precise diagnosis and staging was required for effective management pationts. Imaging techniques, such as ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), are commonly used for the detection of the location, size, as well as morphological and structural changes of adjacent tissues. Nonetheless, these modalities provide little information about tumor biology. Objective: This study presents the experiences of a private clinical center regarding the role of F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) in the diagnosis, staging, restaging, and monitoring of treatment response in the management of patients with sarcoma. Methods: The records of patients with bone and soft tissue sarcoma referred to a private specialized hospital for 18F-FDG PET/CT from 2016 to 2019 were evaluated in this study. Information, such as radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and pathology of patients, was recorded. Results: Regarding gender, 66. 7% of cases were male (mean age of 26. 37 years) and 33. 3% of subjects were females (mean age of 28. 76 years). Among SUVmax reported in observed lesions, either metastasis or recurrence, and primary tumor, the highest value was observed in the lymph node on the right side of the neck due to metastasis of the giant cell tumor of the bone (SUVmax = 18. 23) and the lowest in the right lung pulmonary node due to the retroperitoneal sarcoma metastasis (SUVmax=0. 88). Furthermore, the mean SUVmax of the hepatic right lobe was not significantly different between diabetic and non-diabetic patients (P=0. 761). Conclusion: As evidenced by the obtained results, 18F-FDG PET/CT appears to be a noninvasive measurement method for the prediction of events and outcomes, nonetheless, it is currently considered an optional test, which calls for further studies to corroborate its case-effectiveness.

Abstract:

Background: Obesity is a medical condition in which excess fat tissues have been accumulated in a person's body. Excessive accumulation of adipose tissue can cause a decline in health indicators, including reduced life expectancy or decreased quality of life. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of dialectical behavior therapy on emotion regulation, food cravings, and body mass index (BMI) of obese female students. Methods: This quasi-experimental study was conducted based on a pretest-posttest control group design and follow-up. The statistical population of this study included all female obese students studying in the first year of high school in Sari, Mazandaran Province, Iran, in the academic year of 2019-20 referring to endocrinology and obesity centers. The samples (n=24) were selected by the convenience sampling method and considering the inclusion and exclusion. They were then randomly assigned into two groups, namely experimental and control. The tools that were used to gather the necessary data included the Food Cravings Questionnaire and Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale. The collected data were analyzed in SPSS software (version 22) using repeated-measures analysis of variance. Results: The results showed that dialectical behavior therapy had an effect on the components of emotion regulation, BMI, and food craving. This result was significant up to the follow-up stage (P<0. 01). Conclusion: It can be concluded that dialectical behavior therapy reduced negative emotions in obese people, and according to one of the main factors of craving (i. e., negative emotions), effective emotion regulation could reduce craving. As a result, it led to weight loss in obese female students.
