Introduction: Diabetes is the most prevalent non communicable disease in Iran which counts 3 to 5 percent i.e., 2 to 5.3 million people out of the whole population are stricken by the disease. According to the international organizations, concerned with diabetes, every ten seconds, two persons are diagnosed having diabetes and one succumbs. Considering the chronic adverse effects caused by the diabetes, huge economic burdens are imposed on the care and health system. Nurses play a very important role in fulfilling the medical prescriptions and their unawareness about insulin therapy would result in severe injuries to the patients. So, this study aimed at investigating the level of nurses' awareness about insulin therapy.Methodology: This study was of semi experimental type, in which the population of the study is chosen intentionally. The samples were gathered from Amir-al-momenin and Imam khomini hospitals. The tools included a questionnaire which was divided into two parts. The first part was about the demographic information and the second part constituted 23 questions about insulin therapy then educational pamphlet was given the nurses and two months later, it was resubmitted. The data were gathered and finally it was analyzed by descriptive and deductive statistics. Results: The results showed that the most of cases studied (47%) were between 26 to 30. Besides, most of them were female (66%).The results also showed that the awareness rate was sufficiently higher after the education (p=0.0001).Conclusion: The nurse as one of the main members of the treatment team has the highest contingence and care to the patients, who is directly responsible for injection of insulin. Thus, he/she should recognize the medicine fully and be aware of its maintenance, injection and other essential notes, completely. So, education in the initial phases especially in the diabetes wards is highly needed.

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common endocrine diseases worldwide. The use of insulin has special significance in order to control blood sugar. Self-care insulin therapy is associated with knowledge of how to apply insulin. That is the most important action in self-care by these patients. So, this study was conducted to determine self-care insulin injection in adults with type1 diabetes who were referred to Zahedan diabetes clinic.Methodlogy: This study was of descriptive –analytical type, carried out on 80 adults with type 1 diabetes. A questionnaire was used for collecting demographic data and patient's knowledge and a checklist was used for the practice of self-care insulin therapy. Data were compared using descriptive and analytic statistics. Self- care (knowledge and practice) patients were defined so that favorable knowledge: score 16-20, Average knowledge: 10-15, Poor knowledge: 0-9 and favorable practice: 12-15, average practice: 8-11, poor practice: 0-8.Results: The participants’ favorable knowledge was 23.75%, while the average knowledge was 63.75% and poor knowledge was 12.5%.In addition, 71.25% have favorable practice, 23.5% have average practice and 12.5% have poor practice. There were no significant statistical difference between demographic data and the causes' knowledge and performance, considering the usage of insulin. Conclusion: Regarding the self-care important are for the treatment of diabetes and the fact that most patients in this study had average knowledge of insulin injection, we recommend that research centers of diabetes should pay attention to knowledge about diabetes.

Introduction: Diabetes is the commonest chronic disease worldwide. The nature of this disease and its adverse effects cause heavy economic burdens and reduces the life quality of the patients and his/her family. Thus, we designed this study for the assessment of educational needs of diabetic patients in Amir-al-momenin hospital in Zabol.Methodology: This study was of descriptive –analytical type. The population of the study was chosen intentionally and the samples were gathered from Amir-al-momenin hospital. The tools included a questionnaire which was divided into three parts. The first part was dedicated to the personal characteristics, the second part was about the history of disease and the third part about the diet (16 questions), control area (13 questions) and prevention (13 questions). The data were gathered by the aid of the questionnaire and finally, they were analyzed using descriptive and deductive statistics (SPSS).Results: The results showed that the most of the cases (64%) were diagnosed with diabetes type 2. Most of them (48%) were between 51-60. Also, most of them (38%) have suffered diabetes for 1 to 5 years. Majority of them had not the sufficient knowledge (75% in control and treatment, 11% in prevention and 49% in diet areas).Discussion: The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) recommends that every diabetic patient needs 15 hours of education, every two years. The influential and useful effects of patient's education have been excessively proven by different studies. So, it is necessary for the hospitals that trained nurses teach the patients, the necessary knowledge about self-protection.

Abstract:

Introduction: Diabetes Type 1 is among the most prevalent Adenoidal-metabolic disorders in infants and teenagers which causes adverse effects to hypothalamic pituitary-Hypophsis and gonad. Since there have been a few studies about menstrual duration and diabetes type 1, this study focuses on the relationship between Glycosylated Hemoglobin, Body Mass Index, Disease duraruion, Insulin Dosage and Menstrual Duration in Type 1 Diabetic Adolescents. Most studies to date have focused on adults, who have been asked to recall retrospectively their menstrual histories through adolescence.Methodology: The data was collected using a questionnaire, interview and bio-physical information. The patients were asked about starting and ending point of bleeding for three menstrual cycles. The HbA1c test was done on every case, for two times in duration of three months. Results: For HbA1c, mean was 8.31±1.63 percent. Eighth patients (13.79%) had disorders in menstrual duration (menstruation longer than 7 days). None of the cases had primary amenorrhea. Conclusion: There was no significant relation between the variable and duration of menstruation. A prospective study of menstrual duration in adolescences with type 1 diabetes is recommended.

Abstract:

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine relationship between type 1 diabetes and vitamin D deficiency. Background: Diabetes type 1 is a common disease in childhood. Prevalence of this disease is estimated about 35 million worldwide. Different studies indicated that vitamin D insufficiency and diabetes type 1 in children are related. This vitamin is essential for normal secretion of insulin. Studies showed the increasing destruction of insulin secreting b cells in the pancreas in animals with vitamin D insufficiency. Epidemiologic studies indicate that prevalence of diabetes 1 has a direct correlation with sun shining time. Another studies indicated that intake of 2000 unit of vitamin D in the first year of life, decreased diabetes type 1 risk. Childhood diabetes prevalence is three times higher in children with rickets. Avoiding vitamin D deficiency is essential for prevention of b cells destruction and it preservative effects on diabetes type 1 prevention in life cycle. Bener (2009) showed that there are differences between healthy child and diabetic child, regarding fractures, weakness and intestinal problems. Besides, it was showed that vitamin D deficiency's prevalence is higher in diabetic children compared with healthy children. Conclusion: instruction for vitamin D intake and exposure to sunshine can decrease the diabetes type1 incidence.

Abstract:

Background: Diabetes is a relatively common chronic disease which its prevalence has increased steadily. It can be treated by the aid of training, diet, exercise and medication. Objectives: In this review, the role of medicinal plants in the treatment of diabetes, benefits and harms that it might have during treatment, and the essential points of these drugs should be considered, has been discussed.Description: Currently, several drugs have been developed to reduce high blood sugar. But due to lack of complete remission of the disease with existing drugs, willingness to use alternative and traditional treatments has increased. So using alternative medicine based on herbal therapies should be considered. Conclusion: Animal studies and some human studies have been done on some of these plants and blood glucose reducing effects has been showed. Although some traditional healing tests and modern scientific studies have been confirmed, the need for more studies in humans for medical prescriptions is essential. Therefore, further research to determine the mechanism, interaction effects, efficacy and safety of medicinal plants and herbal active ingredients potentially useful in the treatment of this disease, seems to be necessary. Thus, the traditional and indigenous medical practices can be used in the country, alongside the new methods, standalone.
