Background: Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is one of factors which can affect all individual and social levels, particularly marital satisfaction; it is the process which can play important role developing human resources. This research aims to investigate various effects of instructing EQ-based capabilities on marital satisfaction on the selected sample.Methods: In this semi-experimental study, 60 married couples were selected randomly from bachelor degree students of Mazandaran University, and were divided into two subgroups: experimental group and control group. Experimental group received instructions for fifteen components of EQ. These groups participated in EQ and marital satisfaction tests which were conducted before and after training course. Then data were analyzed, and results were extracted.Results: Results showed that EQ level is variable and one can improve it through instructing appropriate capabilities. Subjects’ EQ level was 343.7±43.21 after training course, compared against before training course, 327.76±44.66, and also compared against control group, 336.63±35.39 (p=0.000). Also, the training course could improve marital satisfaction among experimental group’s subjects (p=0.002).Conclusion: Today, couples’ personal and social lives of couples are facing unprecedented challenges. Many couples are undergoing marital discords and familial disorders because of lacking necessary skills. The biggest problem they face is lacking necessary skills for managing personal and social relationships. Acquiring EQ-based capabilities can decrease social difficulties and slow down worrying increasing trend of divorce among students, and increase their marital satisfaction.
