Abstract:

Introduction: Professional practice in nursing requires familiarity with the ethical issues of nursing profession and their sensitivity to patients. This sensitivity, as the basis of nursing ethics, should be considered from the beginning of nursing education. The degree of adherence to one's religion and the level of one's beliefs appear to be factors influencing moral sensitivity. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between spiritual health and moral sensitivity of nursing students. Methods: In this descriptive-analytical study, 123 nursing students of Hamadan University of Medical Sciences were enrolled. Data were collected through questionnaire demographic information, Poultzan and Erison spiritual health questionnaire and moral sensitivity questionnaire. The data were analyzed by Chi-square and Pearson correlation coefficients using SPSS 21 software. Results: The mean age of participants was 23. 69± 4. 55 years. Most nursing students had moderate spiritual health score and moral sensitivity. There was a positive and significant correlation between spiritual well-being with nursing students 'moral sensitivity (r=0. 26, P=0. 003), meaning that the higher the students' spiritual health score, the higher their moral sensitivity. Conclusion: The results showed that spiritual health is an important parameter in promoting the moral sensitivity of nursing students. Therefore, promoting religious beliefs improves the health status of students and thus plays an important role in the implementation of effective patient care. In the promotion of their health, the spiritual aspect should also be taken into consideration.

Introduction: Coronary artery angiography is a common diagnostic procedure in cardiovascular diseases which could cause fear, stress, anxiety and probably some instability at hemodynamic parameters in the patients before this diagnostic procedure. This study aimed to assess impact of inhalation aromatherapy with damask rose on anxiety of patients undergoing coronary angiography. Methods: A single-blinded randomized controlled trial was conducted with 98 patients at aromatherapy and control group undergoing coronary angiography in the Besat educational hospital of Hamadan, Iran, in 2017. Patients inhaled 5 drops of 40% Rosa Damask essential oil for 20 minutes before the angiography at aromatherapy group and inhaled 5 drops of distilled water for 20 min before the angiography at the control group. Anxiety was measured before and 2 minutes after intervention by state section of state-trait anxiety inventory (STAI) questionnaire. Data were analyzed by SPSS 16 using independent t-test and paired t-test. Results: There was no significant difference between mean of patient’ s anxiety at aromatherapy and control group before intervention. There was significant difference between mean of patient’ s anxiety before and after intervention at the aromatherapy group (P<0. 001) which could decrease mean of patient’ s anxiety. In contrast, there was no significant difference between mean of patient’ s anxiety before and after intervention at control group (P=0. 067). Conclusion: Inhalation aromatherapy with Rosa damask essential oil 40% could have a good impact on decreasing anxiety at patients undergoing coronary angiography. Rosa damask essential oil 40% can be used as a complementary therapy to reduce anxiety in patients prior to coronary angiography.

Abstract:

Introduction: Shift work in the nursing profession can affect occupational performance and sleep quality and lead to impairment in coping with job stress. Regarding the possible differences between sleep quality and job stress of nurses in different work shifts, the purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between sleep quality and job stress of nurses in different work shifts. Methods: Carried out in 2016, this descriptive cross-sectional study, studied 139 nurses being selected through stratified sampling from different wards of hospitals affiliated with Shahroud University of Medical Sciences. Data were collected using demographic questionnaires, Tufts and Anderson job stress questionnaires, and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Questionnaire. Data were analyzed by SPSS 18 using descriptive statistics and statistical tests of correlation, independent t-test and one-way ANOVA. Results: The mean score of total sleep quality of nurses was 7. 04± 3. 2. The highest mean score belonged to the component of useful sleep duration (1. 47± 1. 11) and the lowest to the component of hypnotic drug consumption (0. 42± 0. 834). Pearson correlation test showed a significant relationship between the mean total score of sleep quality and job stress (r=0. 176, P=0. 036). There was no significant relationship between sleep quality and job stress in different work shifts (P<0. 05). Among demographic variables, only tea consumption had a significant relationship with nurses’ sleep quality (P=0. 043). Conclusion: Finding the factors related to the sleep quality of nurses seems to be essential. Given the relationship between job stress and sleep quality, the necessary arrangements, including stress management workshops, should be considered by hospital managers to achieve the ultimate goal of providing high quality patient care.

Abstract:

Introduction: Pregnancy and childbirth is one of the most important stages in women’ s lives. One of the reasons for women’ s desire to choose interest in cesarean delivery is lack of enough knowledge in choosing the type of delivery. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of group counseling on the knowledge about Birth Method in women referring to preconception care. Methods: The present study is a randomized clinical trial, with a design of two groups (test group and control group), with two stages of pre-and post-test. Sampling was done in a multi-step manner in 2018-2019. 240 women with preconception files were selected randomly from the SIB application of the 8th comprehensive health center of the city of Hamadan. Then, 100 women who met the inclusion criteria were divided into two groups of test and control by assignment sequence. The data collection tool was a questionnaire including demographic and midwifery information, knowledge questions about the methods of delivery. The data were analyzed using SPSS 20. P-value less than 0. 05 was considered significant. Results: Comparison of mean (SD) scores of knowledge in the post-intervention stage indicated that by controlling the effect of pre-test scores, the mean score of knowledge in the intervention group was significantly more than the control group (43. 88 (4. 85) versus 22. 09 (79 / 4)) (P<0. 001). Conclusion: The results of this study showed that group counseling can lead to increased awareness of the choice of natural childbirth. Therefore, by taking advantage of the least possible opportunities in prenatal care for education and counseling, women can be guided to the conscious choice of the type of delivery. Also, the repetition of training and counseling in pregnancy care causes changes in attitudes and performance of women.

Abstract:

Introduction: Patients on hemodialysis and their spouses experience various stresses during illness and dialysis treatment. The aim of this study was to compare depression and quality of life between patients on hemodialysis and their spouses. Methods: An analytical and cross-sectional study was performed using the WHOQOL-Questionnaire tool and Beck Depression Inventory-II to assess the quality of life and the depression, respectively. A total of 172 participants (86 patients undergoing hemodialysis and 86 of their spouses) from two hospitals participated in the study. Results: In total, 89. 54% and 91. 87% of patients on hemodialysis and their spouses had depression at varying levels (mild to severe), respectively. The mean score of depression in the spouse group was significantly higher than the patients score (P< 0. 05). Also, the spouses' score in psychological health domain of the quality of life was significantly lower than the patients’ score (P< 0. 05). Conclusion: Depression is highly prevalent among patients on hemodialysis and their spouses. Spouses had higher rates of depression and lower quality of life in psychological health domain than patients. Therefore, it is suggested that, like patients, the depression and quality of life of their spouses should be assessed periodically and, if necessary, supportive measures should be taken.

Abstract:

Introduction: Chronic diseases, including Thalassemia, have a profound effect on the functioning and overall life of the individual, especially at an early age. Given the low quality of life of adolescents with thalassemia and the importance of their function in society, this study aimed to determine the impact of applying life skills on quality of life in adolescents in Ahwaz in 2018. Methods: This quasi-experimental study was performed on 84 adolescents with thalassemia major referred to Thalassemia Clinic of Baqa'i Hospital, Ahwaz city, Iran. The study was conducted from 2018 to 2020. Adolescents were randomly divided into intervention and control groups. Both groups completed the demographic information questionnaire and the Kidney Screening Questionnaire for Quality of Life of the Teenager 52. Then the experimental group received the educational content (holding a class, Q&A and booklet) for 6 sessions of 2-hour. The control group did not receive any training. Data were analyzed by SPSS 22 and Chi-square, independent t-test, and paired t-test. Results: The results showed that the difference between the mean of quality of life in the two groups of control and intervention was not significant (P<0. 05) in pre-test. Also, post-hoc test (assuming non-homogeneity of variances) also showed a significant difference in mean of quality of life in post-test in both intervention and control groups (P<0. 05). Conclusion: Teaching ten life skills can have a significant impact on improving the quality of life of adolescents with thalassemia and can be used as an effective measure in this regard.
