Abstract:

An important discourse in the field of Iranian music since its formation was— and still is— centered on a philosophical duality of tradition versus modernity. This duality emerged when traditional Iranian court music was challenged by new music influenced by the West. The discourse and attendant struggles arose from the differently oriented actions of the field’ s agents who were invested to different degrees in modern versus traditional culture. While the discourse was mostly articulated in the 1960s in the intellectual field in Iran, its formation can be traced back to the 1910s at a time when the music field was starting to form. The aim of this article is to investigate this discourse’ s genesis in music in the 1910s, mostly by focusing on the debate between Vaziri and Aref, two main figures of the field. The conceptual framework for this research comes from Pierre Bourdieu’ s field theory. A case study method was employed, drawing material mainly gathered from writings by and about field agents in journals, magazines, books and biographies. The study shows that what is considered as the duality between tradition and modernity did not exist in the years when the field of Iranian music was forming, but was worked out in the next generation of the field of Iranian music by the intellectual and political fields in the 1960s.

Abstract:

This research aims to answer this main Question that “ the status and role of women how reflected in popular music? Qualitative research method and grounded theory strategy used to this issue. The data collection tool in this research has been deep interview as well Participant Observation and documents study are added in order to theoretical richness. Due to the nature of the present research subject and strategy, Authors did deep and open Interview with 21 residents of Piranshahr that according to an acceptable interview Characteristics, theoretical saturation achieved. Research findings show that music is a media for women while it reflects their issues and problems, more than this, by entering the field of music production and placing humanistic and egalitarian messages within their work, women can be both an awareness-raising agent in society and, by changing the patriarchal worldview, lead people to a more equal world. Music for women has not been a reflection of the status quo, but has helped women to create a new world, free from historical social blockage. It is music that shouts the unequal and liberating voice of women in a patriarchal world and speaks of a more appropriate social status. In such a social structure, music is one of the ubiquitous media and one of the main channels for conveying the message of women and one of the axes of their subcultural resistance.

Abstract:

The present study intends to read Farhad Pirbal's collection of short stories, Potato Eaters (2000), based on the theory of narrative therapy. Narrative therapy as an interdisciplinary field, founded by Michael White (1988-1988), uses psychological and sociological findings in the treatment of traumatic events on the one hand, and narrative techniques and storytelling on the other to help the patient with the adverse psychological effects of past traumatic events. Based on this outlook, analyzing the character-narrators of Pirbal in this collection of stories, this study attempts to examine personal trauma in the contexts of family, ethnicity, and more extended contexts because a person's pain and concern can be that of a larger group; the problem of a person can be that of a community. The stories of the Potato Eaters explore the traumatic past of the characters and the possibility of rewriting it in a different way to eliminate its effects. This study shows that the narrators of Pirbal, as representatives and survivors of the Iraqi Kurds during the tense period that led to the chemical bombing and genocide of them known as Anfal, by Saddam Hussein, recount and re-story the traumatic events of those times in order to alleviate those wounds. They hope to be able to have peace by rewriting their stories in a different way. Although some of them do not succeed, the fact is the character-narrators attempt to do this.

Abstract:

Fear, dissatisfaction and disappointment are some of the most important contents of Ta'ziye. As a ritual drama, Ta'ziye is based on a religious-historical event. The ideological background of this ritual, is honoring the martyred Imam, who prefers the respectful death to the meanly life; so he is killed by the brutal tribe and gains the credibility of intercession for his followers on resurrection day. But the mourning and sorrow, as they appear in Ta'ziye have an Iranian quality. So it seems necessary to pursuit the cause of these hurting pretensions as the origin of Ta'ziye, in the Iranian society. The necessity of social recognition of the cultural products, is their collective quality. This collective nature is more powerful in ritual and traditional arts. Ta'ziye is a product of Iranian society and as other human activities deserves to be recognized sociologically. The content of Ta'ziye comes from two important sources: Religion & Nationality; and leaning on some social factors, Ta'ziye approaches its final forms. Ta'ziye is the product of a historical period in which, for the first time, Iranian society experiences urban social measures, such as: centralized political government, urbanization, ideological and military integration. The structuralist sociology of art, considers the shaping of arts, as a complex social process. According to this view, it is possible to trace the social transformation affects on the formation of Ta'ziye. So each ideological element reflected in Ta'ziye, may explain some Iranian sociological facts. The pattern of Iranian urban structure, before the 20th century modernism, is mainly a single system of political authority, which includes the other structures, such as economy, culture and religion. It's obvious that Iran’ s history has been always the field of repetitive wars and insecurity of lives and properties. It's a history of victimhood and disillusionment. But according to the victimhood psychology subjects, it seems that the Iranian historical appearance as a victim, is a result of the lack of personal and social skills in facing failure and defeat. The Iranian social structure is the main cause of these psychological characteristics, which have been durable enough to be recognized as the Iranian cultural manners. Victimhood and failure are important cultural psychology reflexes in Iranian society and also repeatedly appear in Ta'ziye texts. The aim of this research is to explain the relationship between the Iranian urban social structure and the psychology of victimhood as a cultural characteristic which is one of the most important themes of Ta'ziye texts. The research method is descriptive-analytical and gives the following result: Reviewing the Iranian sociopolitical history reveals that various structures constructing the Iranian urban system are not significantly different. The univocal model for power has created a similar hierarchy in religion and economy and comprises all living aspects of Iranians. The concentration of political-ideological government and the pyramid pattern of authority in Iran causes failure morale and a tendency to appear in the victim role in Iranian society. This cultural nature appears as pity, plaintiveness for fate, and submissiveness in Ta'ziye texts.

Abstract:

Human interaction with the environment in Iran came to thousands of years ago, but the environmental crisis is a recent phenomenon, which was caused by the lack of human awareness of environmental capacity. In Iran, as in the rest of the world, some discourses have had a positive and negative effect on the crisis. Environmentalist discourse also took place in Iran like other parts of the world in response to this crisis. This discourse has tried in many ways to hegemonic itself and enter into a space of discursive struggle. The purpose of this research is to study and analyze this discourse in Iran. In this regard, we consider environmentalism as an articulation, and analyze it through the Laclau's and MoffE's discourse analysis method. The results of the research show that, although the root of the discourse of environmentalism is too old, but due to the modernity of the environmental crisis, which has been markedly since the second Pahlavi, and as outcomes of the extreme development become clearer, this discourse today has become more powerful in dealing with this issue. After the revolution, with the continuation of development policies by various governments, this discourse has been articulating itself against this discourse, and has tried in various ways to hegemonic itself.
