Background: PPAR-g and PRDM16 proteins have key role in the metabolism of adipose tissue and the conversion of white tissue to brown adipose tissue. But, the role of exercise on these two important proteins has not been studied in subcutaneous adipose tissue. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of continuous training on the level of PPAR-g and PRDM16 proteins in the adipose tissue in overweight male Sprague- Dawley rats with diabetes. Methods: In this study, 16 two-month old Sprague- Dawley rats with an average weight of 270±20 g were selected and randomly divided into two groups: control (n=8) and continuous training (n=8).The training group exercised according to the training program 4 days a week for 8 weeks while the control group did not have a training program. Independent t-test was used to analyze the data.Findings: There was a significant increase in the expression of PPAR-g (P=0.004) and PRDM16 (P=0.0001) proteins in the training group compared to control group. Conclusion: Considering the increase of PPAR-g and PRDM16 proteins in adipose tissue after continuous exercise and the important role of these two proteins in the fat metabolism, aerobic exercise can be an important mechanism for reducing this tissue in obese individuals and converting white tissue to brown.

Abstract:

Background: Chronic sinusitis is defined as a symptomatic inflammation of the paranasal sinuses for at least 12 weeks. Many risk factors such as genetic malformations, allergic rhinitis, gastro esophageal reflux, exposure to cigarette smoke and anatomical variations play a role in chronic sinusitis. In numerous studies nasal cavity anatomical variations are introduced as one of the most important risk factors for chronic sinusitis. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the association between the anatomical variations in paranasal cavities and chronic sinusitis. Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on 218 suspected participants (over 18 years old) to chronic sinusitis who were referred to the infectious diseases clinic of Bu-Ali Sina Hospital, Qazvin from 2015-2016. According to the positive or negative confirmation of sinusitis in the CT scan, patients allocated into two groups and the prevalence of underlying characteristics and anatomical variations were compared.Findings: Sinusitis was confirmed by CT scan in 103 (47.2%) participants. There was significant statistical correlation between sinusitis and closed osteomeatal complex and concha bollosa (P=0.001 and 0.01 respectively), but the correlation between sinusitis and septal deviation, paradoxical curvature of the middle turbinate, agger nasi and haller cells was not statistically significant. Conclusion: A significant statistical correlation was observed between chronic sinusitis and the presence of some anatomical variations of the nasal cavities such as closed osteomeatal complex and agger nasi cells. Alterations in sinus drainage and ventilation dysfunction may considered to play a role in this correlation.

Abstract:

Background: There is a relationship between nutrition pattern and sleep status. The role of demographic and dietary factors on the sleep quality in Iranian children are unclear. Objective: To determine the sleep pattern in children aged 7-12 years and its relationship with demographic factors and dietary pattern. Methods: In this cross- sectional study, 264 students aged 7-12 years old were invited using multistage random sampling from schools of Qazvin in 2015-2016. The Children's Sleep Habits Questionnaire (CSHQ) and 24-hour diet-recalls questionnaire were used to determine the sleep pattern and dietary pattern, respectively.Findings: The mean age of the subjects was 9.5±1.53 years. The prevalence of sleep disturbances (CSHQ score>41) was 77.5%. There was no significant relationship between 4 macro-nutritious types (fat, protein, carbohydrates and energy) with sleep pattern and its subscales. There was a significant relationship between bedtime resistances with mother education; sleep onset delay with weight and school grade; sleep anxiety with father education, weight and sex; frequent night waking, parasomnia, and sleep disordered breathing with sex and father education. Conclusion: The prevalence of sleep disturbances was high in our study. Although there was no relationship between dietary pattern and sleep pattern, but sleep pattern was significantly associated with demographic factors. Therefore, it is recommended that programs should be developed to raise awareness in communities, focusing towards parents.

Abstract:

In recent years, knowledge of the biology of stem cell has been very effective and the precise and proper regulation of stem cell function are important for their bio-activity. Several main signaling pathways have roles in regulating them including Wnt/ b-catenin, and Hedgehog which mediate different stem cell properties including self-renewal, survival, proliferation, and differentiation. Also, molecular structures such as microRNAs act as tumor inhibitors or oncogenes and will change the direction of the messenger. The purpose of this review is to find and introduce different signaling pathways involved in controlling cancer stem cells with cancer treatment goals. The search was conducted using several databases including Google Scholar, PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct and totally 93 papers were selected. It seems that very important signaling pathways have been disturbed in cancers and excessive or abnormal signaling through these pathways can contribute to the survival of stem cells. Many of these pathways are not direct, but as an interconnected network of signaling could feed each other. Better therapeutic goals can be achieved with understanding signaling pathways involved in cancer stem cells and drug resistance.
