Abstract

 Surface compressive RESIDUAL STRESSES have significant effects on the improvement of fatigue behavior in mechanical loaded components. In this paper a procedure for process parameters selection for obtaining certain residual stress distribution on CYLINDRICAL ALUMINUM specimen was proposed. By developing a parametric FE model, the surface COLD ROLLING process was simulated to study the effects of COLD ROLLING process parameters on the magnitude and distribution of the surface compressive RESIDUAL STRESSES. By using a neural network for achieving the desired distribution and magnitude of residual stress on the surface, process parameters have been selected. Some experimental were done by HDSG method and the results of FEM analysis and neural network were compared to the experimental data and good agreement were found.
