Abstract

 The essential oils of dry leaves of Laurus nobilis L. from Noshahr (botanical garden) and Tehran (National Botanical Garden of Iran) were isolated by steam distillation at yields of 0.93% and 1.6% (based on dry leaves), respectively. The essential oils then were analyzed by GC and GC/MS. Among 35 compounds which identified in each essential oil, 1,8- cineole (48.5%,44.0%), a-terpinenyl acetate (12.5%,15.6%), sabinene (9.5%, 10.3%), a-pinene (3.3%, 4.3%), b-pinene (3.2%, 3.7%), linalool (1.0%, 5.2%0) and terpinen-4-ol (2.5%, 1.9%) were the major constituents, respectively.
