Pages

  81-100

Abstract

Persian art emanates from the pure - divine spirit of people and the great artists of this land. The art of book ornamentation and illumination in the form of producing Manuscript-books followed by lithographic books and illuminating them with valuable art works of paintings and miniatures and images is one of the obvious examples of mentioned Persian arts. The increasing need for more volumes of compiled books during Qajarid era as well as the book production stepped from the transcription stage towards the printing stage in mass copies. Meanwhile, lithographic print had been preferred instead of the previous methods due to ease of representing script and works of art.Tabriz Central Library is one of the preserving centers for the precious manuscripts and LITHOGRAPHIC PRINTED BOOKS containing an inestimable treasury of art. The present study is to evaluate and introduce the existing LITHOGRAPHIC PRINTED BOOKS in the CENTRAL LIBRARY OF TABRIZ. In this study three samples have been selected out of the numerous existing LITHOGRAPHIC PRINTED BOOKS and to be reviewed considering their thematic importance and the images’ quality with literary, religious, historical issues. The research findings indicate that the three reviewed books entitled; “Ajam works”, Koliyat –e- Joday” and “Hezardastan” enjoy beautiful pictures with abundant aesthetic and visual elements. The pictures of these books have been implemented using repeated lines without using color in one-page format in which dimensioning and highlighting has been created through repeating the lines and hatching. These images are performed following the images’ style belonged to Qajarid era. Paying special attention to the different social, religious and historical issues are indeed among the conceptual features of these books which are seen beside their aesthetic elements such as composition, dimensioning and etc.Objectives:1- Understanding the visual characteristics of stone printed books at the CENTRAL LIBRARY OF TABRIZ2- Becoming familiar with the themes and subjects of the stone printed booksQuestions:1- what are the main visual characteristics of stone printed books?2- what are the themes and concepts applied in the books?
