Title

DETERMINATION OF ROCK PHYSIC MODEL FOR FAHLIYAN FORMATION IN TWO OIL WELLS OF SOUTH WEST IRAN

Pages

Abstract

Determination of relations between compression wave velocity, porosity and fluid parameters, are very important for reservoir characterization. ROCK PHYSICS methods help to study these relations and predict their behaviors. There are some developed ROCK PHYSICS models for sandstone reservoirs that geophysist can relate them to seismic data and model those reservoirs with inversion methods. Development of ROCK PHYSICS models is the first step for ROCK PHYSICS studies, but, unfortunately there is limited study on carbonate reservoirs modeling. The studied reservoir is fractured carbonate of FAHLIYAN FORMATION. The objective of the present research is finding best ROCK PHYSICS model for FAHLIYAN FORMATION in two wells, from two neighboring oil fields of, southwest Iran. In this paper, we first review some ROCK PHYSICS parameters of the FAHLIYAN FORMATION in studied wells. We use sonic, density and porosity well logs, for this study. The results end up with determination of best model for the limestones of FAHLIYAN FORMATION at these two oil wells. The outcomes of this research can be summarized as follows: Our studied data almost follow Rymer-Greenberg-Castagna model for carbonate rocks but there is some difference (shift), between them. In low porosity intervals, where the shale content is high, the trend of data is different from model. In high porosity intervals, fluid saturation is the main cause of change in trend. After plotting acoustic impedance of common fluid we can see a sharp drop down in data. Therefore, this attribute can be used for fluid detection in carbonate reservoirs. Present study also modified Rymer-Greenberg-Castagna model for carbonate rocks.
