Title

ASSESSMENT STUDY OF THE DEFORMATION RATE ANALYSIS (DRA) METHOD FOR IN-SITU STRESS ESTIMATION

Pages

  533-539

Abstract

To determine in-situ stresses in rock mass, various methods are used, which include Slater, flat Jack, hydraulic fracturing and so on. Though these methods are expensive and time–consuming, but each of them has its own specific accuracy. As such, knowledge of in-situ stress estimation is essential to choose one of the above methods. For such reasons, few other methods have been presented recently to estimate in- situ stresses, using core samples. They include differential strain curve analysis (DSCA), anelastic strain recovery (ASR), acoustic emission (AE) and DEFORMATION RATE ANALYSIS (DRA). Due to feasible laboratory condition, the current research prefers the DRA method and as such, its capability and strength was widely studied during the process to measure in-situ stresses. The core abated sample of BAKHTIYARI DAM was used as a case study. Since, in-situ stresses at the dam site was acquired through SLATER METHOD, the test to determine in-situ stresses in core samples found at the location, was carried out applying the DRA procedure. The estimated stresses are closer to the amount determined by SLATER METHOD. Results of this research underline the strength and ability of the DRA method in estimating in-situ stresses. Similarly, the procedure to accomplish this method was also distinguished, with reference to the existing laboratory facilities.
