Abstract

High concentrations of sodium are toxic to most plant species, making soil SALINITY is a major of biotic stress in plant productivity in world wide. The levels Physiological and biochemical researches have shown that salt tolerance in HALOPHYTEs depends on arrangement of the adaptations of the plants, that is the embracing of many aspects of a plant physiology. At this paper the effect of salt stress on seed GERMINATION for Halocnemum strobilaceum and Limonium reniforme was studied. Different GROWTH parameters such as: dry weigh and fresh weight water and mineral and organic contents in shoot and root in salin condition (0, 85, 170, 255, 340mm NaCl) were determined.Seed were collected from the Intchehboroon area in a hot and dry climate. After determining the of optimum temperature for GERMINATION, the effect of salt stress on percentage and rate of GERMINATION were measured. Results indicated that maximum of GERMINATION occurred in salt free medium and high salt concentration caused delay in GERMINATION rate and increasing of GERMINATION time. The highest salt resistance was observed in Halocnemum strobilaceum. This data suggests that mineral and water content of root was lower than shoot but organic matter percentage was reversely high in both of plants.
