Abstract

 NASIR software has served Civil Engineering M.Sc. students as an EDUCATIONAL VIRTUAL WORKSHOP and played an important role on promotion of their academic knowledge and computational skills. In this paper, the option of ARTIFICIAL DISSIPATION is used to stabilize the central Finite Volume solution of conservative depth integrated flow equations on unstructured triangular meshes. This vertex base model is utilized to simulate time dependent flow due to sudden dam break on both wet and dry downstream bed. The accuracy of the model in computing free surface of the water flow is assessed by comparison of the results of using ARTIFICIAL DISSIPATION technique with numerical results available in the literature which are computed using Upwind techniques.
