Title

A Review of the Assessment of Heavy Metals in the Soil of Some Rice Fields around Isfahan and the Impact of Cadmium on Food Security

Pages

  250-255

Abstract

One of the important problems of environmental pollution and health can be Heavy Metals. Cadmium contamination of Rice is a serious problem for the quality and safety of this product. This project indicates the possibility of contamination of soil and Rice grains in some Rice fields around Isfahan with Heavy Metals. For this project, 105 soil samples were taken from 6 Rice-growing areas of this province and the concentrations of Heavy Metals copper, iron, cadmium and lead were measured in the samples. The CF Pollution Factor is used to determine soil contamination with Heavy Metals. Cadmium concentration in the roots, stems and Rice grains is measured and the HQ hazard factor, BAF Bioaccumulation factor and TF cadmium transfer factor indices are calculated. The results show that the concentrations of Heavy Metals copper, zinc and lead were lower than the permissible limits provided by the country's environmental organization for agricultural soils, while the cadmium concentration was obtained in about 21% of the samples above the permissible limits of the environmental organization.
