PREPARATION GELATIN NANOFIBER FROM WATER BASED SOLVENT: EFFECT OF ELECTROSPINNING PARAMETERS ON NANOFIBER MORPHOLOGY AND DIAMETER

Abstract

GELATIN as a natural and biocompatible polymer has been considered in tissue engineering for medical applications. However GELATIN is dissolved in water, its ELECTROSPINNING from aqueous GELATIN solutions would be impossible. Since GELATIN is dissolved in formic acid, in this research formic acid and water have used as solvent. GELATIN NANOFIBERs have been electrospun from solutions with different GELATIN concentration and various water-acid ratios in suitable voltage. NANOFIBER morphology and chemical structure variations were investigated by scanning electron microscopy and FTIR, respectively. The ELECTROSPINNING results showed that the NANOFIBER can be produced from the solution with water ratio lower than 95%. SEM pictures display the NANOFIBERs diameter changes between 82 to 277 nm depends on ELECTROSPINNING solution. The number of beads is decreased by increasing GELATIN concentration, acid ratio and voltage. Also the NANOFIBER diameter is increased by increasing GELATIN concentration and acid ratio in ELECTROSPINNING solutions. The FTIR results explain GELATIN NANOFIBERs have got more order structure as compared to GELATIN powder, and there is not any structure difference in NANOFIBERs produced from solutions with different amount of acid.
