Abstract

The covered architecture of Iranian urban markets is the result of continuation of valuable experiences which have been created in compliance with the environment and also various functions of the market. In this architecture, incomparable efforts have been made to create a unity in different spaces of market. The method of connection of large and small spaces with the market as the main pivot, has crated an interconnected and integrated collection which is unique in the world. The present research is of descriptive-analytical type which has dealt with the historical market of Tabrize from the perspectives of preservation and human construction, social and economic elements, urban design, application of lands, development of market environments and possibilities of access to market through substantively Weighted Analytical Techniques (SWOT). The results show that TABRIZ TRADITIONAL MARKET has a high capacity for development and betterment. The strengths and opportunities of this market has a relative superiority over weak points and its threats such that the superior strategy for redevelopment of Tabriz market is of the type of aggressive strategies.
