Abstract

The influence of Islam in many countries formed a kind of art which some of the past motifs and traditions were used in it. One of the patterns that had been taken into consideration was combined motifs as (human-bird) or HARPY. HARPY is mixed human' head (usually female heads) by the body of bird. What are the meanings of HARPY in Islamic art during 5th and 8th centuries? Based on this research the spreading of Islamic MYSTICAL and ASTROLOGY knowledge are the factors which influenced the forming this symbol. During the Islamic period, HARPY was common and lucky symbol and was found on many metals and earthenware works. This paper is a theoretical ones and the way of collecting data is documented and library.
