Abstract

Accumulation of osmolyte is extensively studied in plant responses to environmental stresses such as salinity, drought, heavy metal, and extreme temperatures. In this research accumulation of two osmolytes of PROLINE and GLYCINE-BETAINE was studied in 3 medicinal species of Nepeta persica, Salvia leriifolia, and Teucrium polium belonging to lamiaceae family in TAKNAR COPPER MINE region in BARDASCAN during spring and summer. Findings suggest that these osmolytes were generally more concentrated in shoots than in roots. Teucrium polium contained both osmolytes in the spring while in summer this species contained only GLYCINE-BETAINE. Nepeta persica BOISS contained more PROLINE than the other species. Also, the osmolytes contents in Nepeta persica were higher in the summer in comparison with spring. On the other hand, Teucrium polium contained more osmolytes in the spring. Finally, Salvia leriifolia had the least amount of both osmolytes comparing with the other species under study.
