Abstract

During 1996-7 about 1395 faecal samples from buffalo including calves and adults, examined for cryptosporidial contamination. The samples were collected from four different age groups containing 0-6, 7-12, 13-24 month old and the fourth group was older than two years. All the sampels stained by modified ziehl neelsen method. In the microscopical examination, 144 samples were positive for CRYPTOSPORIDIUM oocysts. The rate of contamination in 0-6, 7-12, 13-24 and older than 2 years were respectively 10.23, 12.64,9.79 and 9.37 percent. The total cryptosporidial contamination rate in buffalo population in West Azarbaijan was %10.32. The positive rate in males and females were 11.36% and 9.83% respectively and maximum and minimum contamination rates were in Maku (13.9%) and Mahabad (6.72%) respectively.
